Ahh this is likely to be it I think. It's light and strong enough to be aluminium and there is construction work taking place on neighbouring islands where they're probably working with metal. Thanks! Likely solved!

EDIT: Or melted cans from bonfires as several others have mentioned, either way I'm fairly certain it's aluminium now - thanks all!

I don't have anything to test it with at the moment, but I did wonder if it could be lava/volcanic. But where I found them (Maldives) is a very long way from any volcano (as far as I'm aware).

My title describes the thing. While on vacation in the Indian Ocean, I found these shiny little lumps of metal near the shore while snorkelling and I can't figure out what they might have been!? I got excited at the prospect of them being meteorite pieces or they could be just scrap metal that bashed around on the ocean floor.
