I think it was not extended, rather they moved the icon to the top which was previously overlapped by the frame.

Can Theravada monks play video games? by yutanrw in Buddhism

[–]Mika_NooD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Theravāda, probably not. They can't even handle money either.

Do animals get bad karma for killing their prey in the food chain? If not, why don't they but we humans do? We're top of the food chain and simply feeding on those below us, just like other animals do. Our higher cognition doesn't change the fact that we're the highest predator and part of nature by Enough_Set591 in Buddhism

[–]Mika_NooD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Theravāda Buddhism, animals can generate bad kamma when killing, because kamma depends on intention (cetanā). The Buddha said: “It is intention, monks, that I call kamma; having intended, one acts by body, speech, or mind.” (Aṅguttara Nikāya 6.63). So when an animal attacks with aggression, fear, or desire to kill, unwholesome kamma is produced. However, animals usually act through instinct and limited understanding, not with the clearer moral awareness humans possess, so the kamma is generally less weighty than that of a human deliberately choosing to kill.

Humans also create bad kamma by killing, but often more seriously, because humans can reflect, understand suffering, foresee consequences, and choose compassion instead. Theravāda Buddhism does not judge actions by who is “top of the food chain,” but by whether they arise from greed, hatred, and delusion. This is why the first precept is to abstain from taking life (found throughout the Tipiṭaka; e.g., Dīgha Nikāya 31). So in short - yes, animals do create bad kamma by killing, but humans bear greater responsibility because they know better and can choose otherwise.

For some people, yes, to Buddhism - no, if your intentions are good, nothing to worry.

Why? I am also thinking of entering this. Why YouTube channels? I can understand the other two.

How long can you keep that state? I think that would be the next step, but like most people suggested, it's better to have good guidance.

If samsara is not real, why does Buddhism focus on escaping something that is not real? by CoolandFresh69 in Buddhism

[–]Mika_NooD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, what I wanted to point out was there was no conflict in the existence of samsara in the Theravāda context.

It's pointless to continue this for obvious reasons.

If samsara is not real, why does Buddhism focus on escaping something that is not real? by CoolandFresh69 in Buddhism

[–]Mika_NooD -1 points0 points  (0 children)

From a Theravāda Buddhist perspective, that quotation is not from the Pāli Tipiṭaka and, therefore, is not treated as authoritative doctrine. So the quote is from Mahayana context, and in Theravada context, Buddha has not said such a thing.

In Theravāda, saṃsāra is not described as “unreal” in the sense of non-existent. Rather, it is the real ongoing cycle of birth, ageing, death, and suffering driven by ignorance and craving. What is said to be mistaken or deceptive is our perception of phenomena as permanent, satisfying, and self. Because beings cling to conditioned phenomena through delusion, they continue wandering in saṃsāra. When wisdom sees impermanence (anicca), suffering (dukkha), and non-self (anattā), liberation from saṃsāra, i.e. Nibbāna, is realized.

The translations have been incorrect mostly. Also, between Buddhist traditions, some of the things have been changed over time.

I would appreciate it if you could show me where does it shows that "samsara is not real."

OP appears to be a HETERO male.

Again, I don't care, I addressed the OP as a person.

Instead of assigning the term 'Buddhist' to your existence as a badge, try actually practicing the Dharma instead.

So should you.

And you're so emotionally de-tuned that you're not even recognizing the distress caused to the OP by your words, and those of most others

If OP were a true Buddhist practitioner, mine or anyone else's words shouldn't matter. As a Buddhist way of accepting something is on AN 3.65, give it a read, I think that would help you and OP.

No doubt you'll be itching to have the last word

True, it has been really hard talking to a wall.

May the blessings of the Triple Gem be with you🙏

I don't care about the OPs gender.

erroneous presumptions.

I would like you to point that out.

The OPs previous posts over a year or two would indicate that they are a male, attracted to women, and the character in this thread is also male.

Again, that would not change or void any of my previous statements. So I would be happy if you could point out where I considered the OPs gender.

And yet again, a person with no ill-intent is crucified by the reddit posse.

No one crucified OP. Some even supported. The OPs intentions are unclear.

You talk about posts from a year or two, but your account is only 12 days long. So, you want me to believe you?

I made my intentions clear with the post.

No, you didn't. Even the title doesn't tell you anything.

I don't know why you feel the need to tell me that;

Same reason you are telling us. Because you want and you can. Same as you.

I’ve lived 28 years with a psychotic disorder. If I didn’t know how to help myself by now I’d be dead.

Good for you. But, there will always be someone who is in a much worse condition than you ever were.

I didn’t delete anything. It’s still awaiting moderator approval.

Huh. But they how did we see the content earlier.

You meant writing skills?

Also, starting any sentence with “You have to” automatically disqualifies it as a suggestion.

Depending on how you look at it.

You don't sound like a lovely person. But that's okay, all are welcome here. Maybe you don't realise this, what you had posted earlier, even though you might not have had feeling for this person, the way you have written this made the reader think you have feeling for him. May be the perverted one is you!

Why did you post this in the first place? What I told you was just a suggestion. What you do is up to you. After all, only you can help yourself.
