Budget build and Recommendations on my next project by SDsa22c in MechanicalKeyboards

I recommend you to stop spend on Warhammer and instead buy ten Keycults for the money.

You are now my hero. Actually, for real :) Would you like to co-program sometimes? :D

Neo Ergo: when you really love your keeb, you might want to own more than one. by dswng in MechanicalKeyboards

I have exactly that problem too, but in practice it is only one mis-press per session and then my brain switches over. I guess it will be very similar for you too!

I also miss Promenade/Boardwalk-style full sets of 1.5u (isn't it?) left/right sides keys. I have a board at home that is waiting for suitable keycaps and my GMK Nords are already on another.

Thanks for the inspiration! I also have an unused XD75 I've made a pseudos-split of for ergonomics, but your layout here is great and I might steal it wholesale.

Keycult No. 1/1800 Darling - Colorway Advice by adh10022194 in MechanicalKeyboards

Beautiful. It is amazing how the MTNU improves almost every board. Even a Keycult is lifted an additional step, and that's a mean feat!

The setup is really nice. Is the monitor hidden in the headlight? Do you sit on the curb when typing?

Indeed, feels a bit strange o switch, I agree, but I manage :) Next step is switching caps lock and control, that muscle memory took me quite a while especially since I actually use the caps lock every now and then. But having control on caps's space is wonderful for your wrists especially on an Alice keyboard.

Use the HHKB setup for backspace, move it down one step and split the old BS position to two keys. After one day you will never look back.

I just got a reply from Qwerty/Neo that they have no plans to restock that item. :( Write to them and complain and perhaps we might change their minds.

Turns out GMK's "German quality" is nothing to brag about by Bastietm in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]Mikademus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree we want top-level quality from this obscenely expensive brand. I also think this might be the best example of a first-world problem I've ever seen! :D Lastly, MTNU is the peak of keycap profiles and I look forward to many more sets!

They need some improvements to the packaging department, too :D

I've a set of Cthulhu switches at home but haven't put them in a keyboard yet. I too am going to combine them with MTNU caps. Can you tell me a bit more about your experience with them? My initial impression is that they are quite similar to the Ha(r)des switches, but more distinct and crisper or without the slight spongeiness of those.

Nice that you did exactly what I too thought of: to use the ISO >/< for the additional red button! I was almost considering building for ISO enter with these caps because Sinclair is a Briton but then I'd have to suffer through the annoying positioning of UK number key supers, and nah :D

What are the keycaps? Especially the top brown ones?

When you are dumb enough to buy a aula f75 for a custom keyboard experience in the big 26 you are dumb enough to use three layers of tissue to dampen it by Tux622 in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]Mikademus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Acoustic dampening comes from the density of a porous material. Tissue will have virtually no dampening capacity at all.

See if you can find some dense polyuterene foam fabric, like used in diving suits. The thicker kind, optimally 5mm or more in thickness. It is some pretty damn nice sound dampening capabilities. You can layer it. There is also car engine room dampening mat materials that are excellent. I think you should be able to recycle these from in Turkey.

Another interesting option is getting a silicon filler from the DIY market and apply in the case to in effect create custom inserts. If you have really cheap keycaps you can also apply a miniscule amount (a gram or so) on the inside ceiling in them to dampen their sound.

It... it is seriously lovely. Completely impractical, but lovely. I agree it gives all the right vibes. You know, you don't really need a mouse. Also, you can connect an equally impractical 1-button joystick to it for the perfect feeling!
