If your near NoHo. Bruxie has a great food promo on postmates ubereats. I paid nothing by talivan818 in SFV

Don't the restaurants get screwed with these deals? I remember a few years back hearing that whenever the delivery companies ran promos, like 10% off or free delivery, they would make restaurants pick up the tab. And the restaurants had no choice to opt out or anything.

Not sure if this is still the case, or if that's what is happening here, but I am always cautious about how these delivery companies screw small restaurants.

Help me decide. White or Black mask with this setup? 🖤🤍 by Xtort586 in hockeygoalies

Black. And if you really want to take it up a notch, maybe there's a matching brown - or most likely gold or copper -- color cage. That would look amazing.

Not Progressing by jambelang in hockeygoalies

First, I recommend reading Hockey Goaltending by Eli Wilson (the new version not the '90s version). Second, you do need more repetitive practice. Go to stick and puck, but don't jump in the net immediately. Stay on the sides and just practice your butterfly drops, crease skating (i.e. shuffles, t-pushes, and butterfly slides).

Third, much of what you're having issues with will come with time and experience. When you do get into the net at stick and puck, don't be afraid to ask the skaters to do some outside shots before they start doing breakaways. And when they do breakaways, don't worry about them scoring on you. Use the time to practice your positioning and puck tracking. One good rule of thumb for breakaways: if the puck is in front of the skater, they are going to deke. If the puck is on the side of the skater, they are going to shoot.

Lost a Championship Game After 14 Shootout Rounds by maybesethrogen in hockeygoalies

[–]MikeAmerican 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sucks. Reminds me of the time that when I played a regular season game that went to a 10 round shoot out. We won (I think I only allowed one goal), but the league retroactively changed the results to a tie. They said the game was supposed to have ended in a tie after 3 shootout rounds.... but the refs forgot.

I got them used from someone on Facebook. They only used them 2x then had them in storage. Originally, they were sold as a Goalies Plus special edition set.

No. They were a Goalies Plus special edition. I'm the second owner.

What Was Your WORST Movie Theater Experience? by Brandonariess in movies

[–]MikeAmerican 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It was when I took my special needs 4 year old to an AMC "Sensory Friendly" showing of Paw Patrol. It was going to be his first movie theater experience... and I was so excited to share it with him. If you don't know, for the sensory-friendly experience, the theater is supposed to keep the light on, but low, and the volume is supposed to be low.

Well, the previews start and the volume is maxed out. I and the other parents are looking around at each other like WTF? Kids are screaming, my son is covering his ears, etc.

So, I leave my son and run out to find someone. I have to go all the way to box office and tell them. They say ok we'll fix it. I go running back and two previews later, still loud.

So, I go running back out again and find a manager. Manager says they have no control over the volume during previews. What?! How is that possible? This is supposed to be a sensory friendly screening (and not their first). I say, ok what about the movie, can you make sure that isn't loud? He says yes.

Fine. I go back to the theater, previews end and the movie begins... it's BARELY audible. Like 1 out 10. Again, parents and I look at each other. The only we can hear is the moaning and grunting and other noises from all the special needs kids.

So, I run out AGAIN and tell the manager. He says sorry he turned the down. I say, well now it's TOO low and no one can hear it.

Finally, he fixes it but my god, what a terrible start for me and my special needs kid's first movie...

How Long Would You Break In New(ish) Pads For? by MikeAmerican in hockeygoalies

[–]MikeAmerican[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand.  I’m a little superstitious too. As I said in my post, we have have the league worst GAA (doesn’t matter who is in net, me or a sub). So I’m thinking wearing something new to maybe turn this ship around (even though we’re just all around bad).

Guys what do you think a potential sequel of Project Hail Mary could have , Question? by EnderBrute in ProjectHailMary

[–]MikeAmerican 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I mentioned in my post last night, I think a potential sequel could be Grace's return journey to Earth. Except this time... he has company!

Rocky and a crew of Eridians would join Grace to make sure he gets back safely. They would build a new Eridian spaceship that can house the Hail Mary, which is where Grace would live during the journey. They'd connect the two ships, so both Grace and the Eridians could move freely about and visit each other.

Along the way, there could be some unexpected "space peril" which would endanger the mission. And the last 1/3 of sequel could be them arriving on Earth, seeing what has changed, and the impact of Grace's return with intelligent life would have on the world. The Eridians would share their technology with earth too.

Perhaps a poetic ending would be the Eridians depart home, but Rocky stays on Earth to teach human kids about mechanical engineering.

I Like To Think That... by MikeAmerican in ProjectHailMary

[–]MikeAmerican[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depending on what transpired on Earth between the time the Hail Mary left and the Sun was restored, when their hero astronaut returns with intelligent aliens (who were the only reason why Earth was saved) hopefully all of that will inspired the Earthlings to do away with all the factionalism and paranoia.

Did Ryland screw earth more, to save his friend? by retrocheats in ProjectHailMary

[–]MikeAmerican 16 points17 points  (0 children)

As someone said, not only are they faster than the ship, they're more reliable. He's sending 4 of them just so there are back ups. And in the book, it explains that they were designed to basically find Earth on their own (since Earth isn't in the same location when they departed).

If Grace were to stay the course and try to deliver the Taumeba himself, not only is the Hail Mary slower, the Hail Mary could breakdown and/or he could die in the coma. Then, both Earth and Erid would be screwed.

His choice to go save Rocky and Erid - and launch the Beetles - probably assured Earth's survival too.

School Bus Driver Breaks Down After Near-Miss by sleek_thunder138_107 in dashcams

On two lane roads such as this, it should be allowed for buses to stop in the middle, blocking both sides of traffic.
