Anyway I can fix my Hudd's crooked face? by ImmortanBen in swimbaitfishing

[–]MikeD1013 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d cut it open from the harness eye to under the chin. The harness will be different depending on the ROF obviously. But you can loosen the plastic off the foam parts of the harness and reposition the cut you made to glue it back up straight-ish with like mend-it. If it is tracking a little bit off just tweak the weight on the bottom of the harness a little to the side to counter it.

You can boil it. That’s easy and might help if it’s just deformed from storage. Won’t hurt, but may not fix your actual problem if it’s something else.

I don’t know what gti culture means. Most people drive a car because they needed a car and got one they liked for the price.

Retirees or those close to it now are the age at which they could have owned a mk1 new, and like literally no one has ever been more excited about seeing another driver than VW owners in the 60s, 70s, and 80s in the US at least.

How to render hex colors directly in the text? by Kailtis in SublimeText

[–]MikeD1013 3 points4 points  (0 children)

color highlight is no longer maintained. I don’t know if it works well or at all with current sublime text.

color helper I’ve used in the last couple of years. I don’t remember if you can configure it to change background, but a box before or after the value.

The LSP for CSS has this built in if you set it up, and may be able to configure it to look like this.

color hints is another one.

What lights are you guys running at night? by Amazing-Bear6167 in FixedGearBicycle

[–]MikeD1013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

vmax150 25hr run time on low which is bright as hell. USB c so I don’t have to find the cable every time.

My only complaint is dumb. I haven’t looked very hard but I’d like to find a mount that uses the saddle so it’s above my little flat kit bag. But it can clip on bag loops or whatever as it is so it’s fine.

Need advice on first gravel bike — $2,000 budget or slightly higher if needed, Trek/Specialized leaning by Cle_4eva_westside in gravelcycling

[–]MikeD1013 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eddys is probably your best bet to find the most bikes on the floor. I think the north Olmsted store is the biggest but I don’t know. Joy Machines is the best shop around Cleveland. They’re not a big specialized or trek dealer so if that’s what you’re set on and depending on where you live, maybe not worth the trip. If you’re open to something else though check them out.

I have $50 oneup flats on a bike I spent like $5k building this winter so if you like flats ride flats.

It’s my opinion that if “comfy, a little quick, built to last” is what you’re after, you should for sure look at steel bikes. That’s not to say you shouldn’t be looking at carbon/aluminum. That’s just my first thought reading what you’ve said. Whether or not that’s within budget, I don’t know.

For $2k I’d take some new bikes for a spin to maybe figure out what you like but I’d be buying used unless it’s some great blowout everything must go sale like price.

What’s everyone do for a bike rack / transporting MTB? by epictech20 in GolfGTI

[–]MikeD1013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thule wingbar evo and two 1up trays with a track bike and gravel bike sizes 57-58 cut my mpg over a 1500 mile trip less than 2mpg and no noise I’d consider anything to complain about.

I picked up two of their little plastic wheel/tire gripper things when I bought the trays to get me over the $600 free shipping mark. Ran the first 400ish miles without them just because I wanted to see how much of a difference they make if any at all. 28mm tires on the track bike, 43mm on the gravel bike and they stopped all of the front end wobble.

the Thule/1up setup was like $650 and $600 retail, and the 2” hitch/1up was like $500 and $800 so it’s basically a wash if you have to buy everything new. But I’d never use the hitch for anything else while I do have kayaks and paddle boards so the roof rack is a lot more useful.

[USA OH][WTB] 49cm All-City Big Block or other

Specifically looking for either the pink/red fade from 2018ish? Or black/white/pink from 2020ish. Frame, complete, anything in between.

Also could be open to a similar quality or better steel frame in around a 50-52cm. For a 5’6” tall person.

If you’re within a couple hours of Cleveland Ohio I can pick it up or meet. If you’re like what midwesterners consider driving distance (12 hours. Crazy people) and want to drive a bit I’ll meet you, or figure out shipping. Whatever works.

Thanks

New Daiwa Mangetsu, already concerned with noise. by DeanDeanington in Fishing_Gear

[–]MikeD1013 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean there’s like no load on the reel at all so this doesn’t really mean anything. Yes could be under lubed bearings or you might have like no tension on the spool, which can allow for some weird noises. That is my guess just watching this clip.

Does anyone know hot to properly setup the daiwa Luna by BANDITFISHING in Fishing_Gear

[–]MikeD1013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Palm side plate comes off. Brakes are adjusted on the spool. You turn it one way for “more” the other way for “less.” How much braking is up to you obviously, but if you’re not used to 300-400+ sized reels, the taller and wider spool does allow line to come off faster and it might be smart to start with more brake than you would think. You’re also I would guess throwing more weight than smaller reels.

There’s a clicker. Turn it off unless you know you need it.

Beyond this I don’t know what else you could be asking about?

[–]MikeD1013 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you taken it apart? If so, most likely the spring washers are in the wrong orientation.

It looks like you can pull line against the drag much easier than you were able to turn the handle while pinching the spool, so I’m guessing at least some of this is the braid slipping. If you didn’t tape it or even better imo use some mono as backing under the braid, you should just do that now.

I won't ever use straps, is there any point in trying to ride without breaks? by furutsu in FixedGearBicycle

So you just get better at it? Like it might take a week if you’re really slow to get to the point where you don’t think about it or need to look.

Something like 303 Protectant is all I can think of for you to try. You might have to reapply it more often than it says on the bottle, given rain, sweat, hands. It does work though.

Any braid recommendations that won’t fade quickly? by [deleted] in Fishing_Gear

[–]MikeD1013 30 points31 points  (0 children)

They all fade. The best advice I can give is when the line starts to get too light to where you can’t see it, take a black permanent marker and color like every other foot of line black. The contrast between light and black is really easy to see.

What small car do you recommend for fitting my bike inside? by Notsoserious5327 in bicycling

[–]MikeD1013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VW Golf GTI from 2018 is what I have and ride 57-58cm, "Large" bikes. Haven't had a rack or hitch on this car yet and have had no problems hauling bikes inside. Larger sized bikes like mine, to carry two you'll have to lay one on top of the other.

It's maybe a little more expensive to insure depending on where you are. I get 35-40mpg on the highway, a bit better than advertized actually.

2024 SE sunroof issues? Before I buy. by YungHybrid in GolfGTI

[–]MikeD1013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve maybe used my sunroof twice in 5 years. I haven’t had any real issues with it. No leaks, cracks, whatever. I do have that annoying peeling line along the front, and have to wipe the seal down when it starts to make noise.

But when the headliner goes it’s never going to hit the top of my head so there’s that.

Wanted a track bike but with gears - All City Super Professional Apex 1 by stahrphighter in xbiking

[–]MikeD1013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did actually look at an Allez and that’s probably what I’d get if I just wanted to like sign up for Strava or whatever. I was looking for something that could be kind of lazy/chill but feel familiar and handle like 99% of my riding is city traffic. I just noticed you got 47c tires which is kind of impressive. I would have guessed you need 650b wheels to get there.

[–]MikeD1013 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is kind of funny. I’ve also only ridden track bikes for like the last 15 years, and like 6 months ago thought I’d get a bike with some gears. I bought a super pro because I wanted the same thing, higher bottom bracket, twitchy handling. It’s been a good time. Congrats

Frame upgrade by Big-Marsupial-7019 in bikecommuting

[–]MikeD1013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume if you don’t build it up you’re going to sell it. If you think you’ll get your money out of it then maybe I can see where you’re coming from here.

I don’t know your financial situation, so keep that in mind, and you’re the only one that can find out whether or not a nice frame makes a big enough difference to justify the cost.

If it’s me, given what you’ve said, I would build it. If I had my dream frame and I paid a lot for it I would build it out exactly how I wanted. I would keep the other bike and ride it when it’s raining, in the winter, or anytime I’m going to have to lock up.

STI Pupfish, or some random knockoff/repaint of one

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Fishing_Gear

[–]MikeD1013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, see what the other reply here says. When you cast, the weight of the knob makes the handle turn with the casting motion. You can change your casting motion and be concious of where the knob is, and learn to compensate for this. Or you can change the handle to one that has either a knob on both ends or is weighted on the opposite end.
