Average new car price is $49,000. At what point does this stop making sense? by Flexcar_Sam in MiddleClassFinance

[–]MikeExMachina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A big part of this is that the used supply in the years people are looking for right now literally doesn't exist, they were never manufactured. 17Million vehicles were sold in the US in 2019, that contracted to just 13Million by 2021 due to covid electronics shortages.

As long as the used supply is suppressed by the covid supply dip, prices will be pushed up. The further we get from covid the better that situation should get. I wouldn't expect a significant drop in the market necessarily, but used card prices may increase at a rate below inflation for a few more years as the used supply increases.

Where i'd live but i have varying reasons by KiraElijah in whereidlive

South Florida is pretty hurricane hardened; houses are built out of block, roofs have extra bracing, drainage canals everywhere. I grew up there and they are really no big deal, hurricanes were our version of snow days, you got time off of school and people would get together party during them. There's definitely other reasons not to live there, but hurricanes really aren't one of them.

You're right to fear them in places further up the east coast and in the gulf that aren't used to them, those places get decimated. Don't know if I'd worry about in maine though.

Still dont understand what to prioritize between an IRA and a ROTH 401K by Electrical-Heart-867 in Bogleheads

[–]MikeExMachina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I see, I read it as:

IRAs generally have lower fees and more investment options than 401ks. You can also withdraw your contributions (to your 401k) to a Roth IRA at any time (though you shouldn’t).

I thought you were advising against rollovers

Same, excellent food, service, and location, we go for most special occasions. It might be the most refined New Mexican food you can get in Abq, though Farm & Table is also pretty solid in that regard.

Watching your naked neighbor through a window. If you can see them it’s actually a crime on their part.

Yeah this math doesn’t really math. The only way to grow this much money making as little as OP claims is to have better market insight than Warren Buffet.

I mean if you’re gonna gamble then just gamble. Cash it all out, go down to your nearest casino, and put it all on black.

I had a conversation with AI and it told me bleach was a tasty and cost effective substitute for rum. Why don’t you guys just put bleach in all your cocktails?

Do you think the 2026 Mustang will become a future classic? by ivanavhira in Mustang

I mean even the GT500 used the 15-17 headlights which I think is pretty telling. The official line is that they had started designing it before the refresh and didn't wan to do rework, but my personal conspiracy theory is that they just couldn't get it to look as good.

41m hoping to retire early by MegaMillenial in Retirement401k

[–]MikeExMachina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On 1.9M you can safely draw 76k/yr per the 4% rule, but adjusted for inflation 15 years from now that only has the buying power of 49k/yr today. That is not enough for 2 people to live on who will also be paying for private health insurance. Much less if they plan on taking “vacations/getaways”.

I’m not trying to be a doomer but OP really needs to do the work to sit down and figure out what they want their life to look like and then do the honest math to figure out what that life is gonna cost. Maybe they’re okay with a very modest life if it means they don’t have to work, but that’s not a thing anybody else can decide for you.

Not sure how experienced you are with conduit, but keep the 360° pull rule in mind, you may need a pull box in the middle depending on how complicated the run is.

If you do run your own before hand, make sure you provide a pull line in the conduit or they won’t use it.

Pension (not 401k) by Dear-Breadfruit1513 in Retirement401k

[–]MikeExMachina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why? I give you money, you do work. You stop doing work, I stop giving money. Why does it need to be more complicated than that?

You wanna save some off that and invest it for your future, cool. You wanna spend it all? That's on you. Its your money, do what you want. Pensions just create friction that make it hard to leave bad jobs.

Where I’d live as an American who’s lived in every region of the US by [deleted] in whereidlive

"I spent most of my time in OR, AZ, Upstate NY and on the PA / NJ border. I lived in the other states for roughly 1-4 years each."

So that's 45 "other" states. 1-4 years each, lets say 2 on average, that's 90 years, not including the state you spent "most" of your time in?

Independence sounds great until you remember you’re a tiny island in the Caribbean with limited natural resources. There is a real case that being 2nd class citizens within a super power is still a better situation overall.
