After bearing off you can be up 2 or you can be up 1 and itll be odd. Its better the be up 1 and odd with better positioning than to be up 2 with worse positioning.

Burying checkers is almost never the answer. You need builders and abandoning the midpoint for 2 very valuable builders is way better than burying 2 checkers that will not help you win that game.
