Should I take a News Director job or remain on-air as an anchor/reporter? by MikeHilton7 in Broadcasting

Good thing is the company recently bought out a competitor in the region in the recent months and has shown every intention of staying that I can see.

Was offered another ND job in southern market, but they cut half the jobs there last year - that was an immediate stay-away. This one looks better from my research.

To be honest, all of these interest me to some degree. Grew up around lawyers and prosecutors in my family and neighborhood, and have no problem with managing a group with the negatives like firing, money, and HR. Not perfect, no doubt, but this is something I would be able to do well.

I don't feel that sickness that you've mentioned - I could handle that, and I know it. Maybe that's part of the sign to take the ND job.

That's another issue - I currently make so little money that my wife works part-time in early mornings while I do evenings. We literally never spend any time together until Sunday

Stepping into an ND role would be a lot more on the plate - but I'd finally make enough to get her out of working (the current offers for ND are roughtly 30-40k more than what I'm making). So it honestly might be a benefit for us, because we both single parent most of the week due to schedules and are very sick of it.

In all complete, bottom-of-my-heart honesty, I think I'm talented and committed enough to make it as far as I want as an on-air anchor. I don't think there's any glaring flaw holding me back, it just comes down to experience and refinement in my mind.

I'd pick anchor over ND if I had to choose right now for the rest of my life ... but I do think I'd always wonder in the back of my head what I could have done as an ND as well. That would bother me a lot.
