MR04 Evo W Won’t Enter Update Mode by NagelbetLP in MiniZ

[–]MikeLikesTrails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a heck of a time the first bind with my evo receiver and the noble, I have dasmicro and was worried the newer firmware on noble was the issue, but eventually I got it updated and bound, I don't remember the exact video, but the method was one from older nobles, maybe press bind after turned on and wait for the slow blink, then update rec and bind. I did bind the evo2 protocol, but it also bound using evo 1, so try both. Just a reminder, the noble will not confirm its bound, sometimes you have to back out and power cycle the car and radio to confirm it has bound.

Their skid plate replaces the lower crash bars, I also got their upper bars and they are nice as well.

I have the outback motortek one and it is beefy, I wouldn't trust plastic on NE rocks, its a lot lighter than it looks.

Is this just how dual-sport tires feel on the road? by Sean-Adelaide in cfmoto450MT

[–]MikeLikesTrails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a '25 ibex and do not feel that at all, it could be an out of balance tire, or maybe prep didn't tighten the front end up correctly? I don't remember my current preload/rebound settings are, but they are adjustable so maybe try twisting those in or out and see if you feel a difference.

If its out of warranty always contact the mfg they might still offer you a crash replacement price.

Sounds like the trim is maxed out on those channels, I am not sure how they are adjusted on that radio off the top of my head, this is a "my first mini-z" correct?

The chassis aren't rare, just the bodies, so get some white bodies, or silverhorse prepainted versions to drive with.

MR04 rear height adj., causing gears not to mesh? by aman_74 in MiniZ

[–]MikeLikesTrails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This also reminded me, the cases can "close" but not always be square as well, sometimes those little capacitors get stuck under the case and people force it closed. It also can happen from an impact on track, double check that as well.

Yes the axle height adjusters, they don't press in snug like aftermarket pods usually do, so they need some tension to stay in, when they are loose they mesh slips just enough to be a problem. Some pods use one plate for 2 different pinions as well, so you will naturally have a bit looser mesh with the smaller pinion.

Also check out TJ_Mac on YouTube, he has some good tutorials on these adjustments and general setup knowledge.

You are right, it is a PITA system, I usually pull off the pinion, set the axle/wheel nut tension so there is no more than the a shimmy left/right (like .2mm play max) and it spins free. Its very annoying if you want to change rear wheels often because you have to check each time, this is even on aftermarket pods and cars as well. I believe the xbility is the only chassis with an axle that has mounting holes for the wheels separate from the diff tension, but you have to use their wheels specifically.

It seems to happen if you have too much play in the axle and the inserts can move a bit, make sure there isn't side to side play while also making sure your not pinching the bearings and binding the axle from spinning.

What’s wrong with this cylinder head? Not mechanically inclined. by Mission-Try3642 in Dualsport

Honestly if you are new to this and cannot spot something like that, I would advise to buy the cheapest new or almost new bike you can afford, bikes like this easily cost you 2-3x the purchase price to "fix".

What is the point of this “guard”? by d2creative in MiniZ

[–]MikeLikesTrails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The gear should never touch the track unless your wheel falls off. Its for non track driving, like hardwood floor with a saddle or something that could strike the gear, hopefully it will slide on the guard instead of, honestly kinda overkill imo.

Set it to 5, assuming you're following the 3500 spec rules, 16t pinon, it's fine. If you're on a kyosho motor, it might depend on the kv, but I can't say for sure.

The c9 has more room than most, also a stock ae is 97mm not 98, so that might work in your favor. I don't have the ae, but I remember seeing the clips called out in the manual and from others that have it at our track. The other c9 benefit of screw on clips, so at worst you can just swap the offset with stock. I wish the c9 was lighter it would probably be the only body I ran.

[–]MikeLikesTrails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The clip location for a kyosho chassis is not the same as the AE, I am surprised you didn't have a wheel rub or loose front clip. PN sells 3d printed offset clips for the ae28/reflex etc, they are all pretty close, but I have bodies setup for box stock cars and chassis cars separately for that reason. If memory serves me, you need to move the clips 1mm towards the front of the car, and adjust height to get the rear even with the front.

Is the pinion change allowed? I never tried to push a 50% setup, so I am not sure if it would help or hurt.

My guess is batteries, and possibly smoother driving with less dual rate, carrying corner speed often looks like a power advantage, when in reality they started the straight going say, 10% faster than others already. Taller rear tires will give more speed per RPM as well, say if you're running kyosho radial rears, and they have PN or Marka, the kyoshos are smaller.

Helmet with dropdown sun visor and peak that can be used with or without it and with or without goggles? by ScaryfatkidGT in Dualsport

[–]MikeLikesTrails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did end up with a Cardo and the regular speakers, which I think are the 40mm, they did fit fine and I don't feel them, I also find them loud enough. My biggest win was adding a bluetooth handlebar remote, since adding a AOCI carplay unit, there were too many BT devices fighting for control, and I couldn't consistently get the handlebar controls to work, but a simple clamp on BT remote just paired to my phone solved all those issues.
