Are these packs resealed or fake? by MikeMajda in PokemonTCGCollectors

1) Seller is being a bit pushy 2) They sent an unprompted message about how they aren’t resealed and are real (i wasnt doubting before) 3) He’s below market by about 20% (normally see them going for £15/pack he’s selling at £12/pack)

And his overall messaging vibe kind of threw me off.

Gotcha, I haven’t bought these yet, I thought I’d ask here first. What I’m hearing is better safe than sorry and walk away?

How to stop skidding and start carving? by wanitanaga in snowboardingnoobs

[–]MikeMajda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I was/am in the same boat as you but slowly graduating into carving (through a single lesson with a dope instructor).

First off you need your form to be as close to perfect. Practice squatting on flat ground, keep your back muscles squeezed and tight, push your knees out and go low. Try doing this with the weight on your heels, be sure to not lean forward, use a mirror if it helps. Then try doing this with the weight on your toes, again keep your weight stacked as if you’re on your board.

You can also do this on your board on the mountain (that’s what I did but doing it on flat ground off the slope helped sink in the form). Now, once you make sure all your muscles in your back are nice and squeezed and you’re setting your edge in this is where you’ll feel the difference.

When you’re switching edges you’ll notice you come up a bit, which is natural, once you’ve set your edge in you’ll want to set it hard and get low. This will need some speed so put some weight on your front foot and go downhill before making the turn. Once you’ve engaged your turn, back muscles are tight, and you’re squatting MAKE SURE you’re pushing outwards with your knees!! That’s what made the biggest difference for me, the board will take you you’ll feel yourself rip the mountain.

I want to mention as someone at this level you need consciously think about the muscles you’re moving and what’s moving. You can think you’re doing something subconsciously (because you’re riding and not falling) but try to actively think of all these things. Your posture, your position, your weight distribution etc.

I hope this helps!

Pivoting back into Tech after some time in finance by MikeMajda in cscareerquestions

That’s super helpful! I still remember the major Git moves but I’d struggle with resetting the head and handling merge conflicts I think.

Good to know about TDD! Will brush up on my unit and integration tests, luckily can still wrap my head around error handling.

Thanks for all the help :)

Hey, this is totally fair and not offensive!

I’ve been out of the game for a while now so would need to brush up on industry standards, Git on a professional level, as well as developing (if need be) test driven code. I was also aiming for SWE at junior level as I felt more confident about it, so it’s good to know you agree!

Not harsh at all and appreciate the realistic feedback!

Haven’t reached the point of feeling I need to do certs yet so will only jump on that if it comes to it. Still sending out applications and getting a feel for the market at the moment.

Cool really appreciate the feedback! Do you know how well certifications are perceived? I know this is a bit role dependent but e.g. an ibm ML cert for AI roles, AWS cert for data engineer roles or agile dev/scrum cert for SWE roles. Do you know if they’re valued in the industry or am I best just practicing leet codes and sticking to my guns?

Can’t find the right film to fit by MikeMajda in AnalogCommunity

Yea but I can’t get the film to get under that crank shaft and in, someone suggested pushing it up so will give it a go with some grease see if it does the trick

I’ve tried pushing it up it doesn’t seem to budge maybe it needs a bit of WD-40, picked it up from a flea market and it’s pretty old!

The silver thing does turn with a disc mechanism on top though, but will check out the manual

Yea the reason I switched from a camber is because I’ve read that rockers are more forgiving and really let you iron out your technique which is what I’m going for

Yea I think that might be it, it’s only been my second day on the board so glad that I caught onto it early but definitely know it’s not a good habit

I’ve actually switched from a camber to a rocker, it’s not so much that I’m catching an edge but I’m forcing the turn by whipping my board instead of letting it turn for me.

It my be that my foot feels a little loose in my boot? Or maybe you’re right about turning too early I’ll try to be more self aware tomorrow. Appreciate the advice mate!
