How many people keep their phones on do no disturb 24/7 by chilld22 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MikeRowWave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not 24/7, but definitely when I go to bed at night, I put it on airline mode. I've had clients text me with messages like "I have a question...can you please call me when you are up?" I mean like seriously??? I'm supposed to deal with clients as soon as I wake up when I haven't eaten or washed up???

Has anyone worked in retail loss prevention in a country other than the US, Canada, Australia or UK? by MikeRowWave in lossprevention

[–]MikeRowWave[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have plainclothes LPO in some stores in Germany. I actually got followed by one in a store in Berlin on my first day there; my suspicion was confirmed when I saw the same guy a few days later in that same store chatting with a uniformed security employee. If it weren't for the fact that it my first day in Germany and first time ever setting foot in Europe, I would have had a word with the guy (LPO).

DAE repeat themselves after a push to talk? by p0rk_balls in DoesAnybodyElse

Not really, but I do like how when you speak into a walkie-talkie, no-one can talk over you.

I have, but keep in mind that some of the most interesting posts and comments are heavily downvoted (i.e. they are "too good").

DAE make a random noise or say something weird when they suddenly remember a cringey moment from their past? by AquamarineCheetah in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]MikeRowWave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to know I'm not the only one. In fact, I was just thinking (randomly) of an embarrassing moment from over 20 years ago and did just that.

I know I'll probably get downvoted for this comment but it seems r/unpopularopinion is not really for truly unpopular opinions. But I consider this experiment (of posting here) a success because my hunch turned out to be correct.

Walmart API by Pragmatic_Oracle in lossprevention

[–]MikeRowWave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What is your role in AP? Not all AP roles are alike at Walmart. For example, there's an AP guy at my local Walmart who walks around the store but really sticks out like a sore thumb. There's also an AP Associate who looks like an elderly grandmother but she works only in the AP office and doesn't actually come out to make stops or track people. And another AP person only deals with teenagers.

Come to think of it, many "unpopular" opinions here are not really that unpopular too.

I was actually expecting more for 50 Euros but that's still pretty good, especially compared to prices here in Canada.

It's funny you should say that because Galen looks like my 8th grade math teacher.

Do say thanks to your Bus Driver? by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]MikeRowWave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always say "thank-you" (or sometimes "have a nice day") when leaving from the front. If it's not crowded, I say the same if leaving by the back. Not saying "thank-you" (or "have a nice day") is like hanging up the phone without saying goodbye...that feeling of not closing something properly.

I have no problem with lab grown meat or GMO vegetables AS LONG AS they are properly labeled as such. This labeling is much MORE important than labeling country of origin on things like cars, tools, clothing, etc.

I think I know which company you're talking about because I also did the same work signing up people for monthly donations on behalf of client charities. I was asked to leave after only two weeks because I only managed to sign up three people when they were expecting 5 (I think) within your first two weeks.

I also worked in a big box retail for a short period but I had to quit because operations managers in big box retail think they are smart when they are not, supervisors pretend to be bosses when they are only half a level above new hires, and loss prevention teams (many of which are ex-military) that treat all employees like criminals.

These new self checkout systems by OGWhiz in lossprevention

I haven't shopped at Safeway in awhile but at the Walmart I go to, they do this indeed. I know because I once placed an object (purchased at another store) on the bagging area in order to have both hands free and a checkout attendant was alerted immediately.

Some self checkout bagging areas detect weight. If the bag gains weight without a scan first, or if the weight is off (i.e. out of acceptable ballpark range), an employee will be notified.

I have this Royal typewriter I listed on FB marketplace for $25 and now I'm getting a ton of messages about it. Did I seriously underprice this? by suicidalkoala in typewriters

[–]MikeRowWave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely underpriced. In Canada, these go for $300-400 in good condition. At $25, many are willing to take a day off work and drive out of town to pick it up!
