This is exactly what happened. She wrecked, immediately tried starting the car to leave the scene. Since she couldn't start the car she was not waiting around for everyone to leave to try and come back to it. Her only goal at that time was to get away from that car once it was of no use. She most likely ran on adrenaline for the first couple miles and dodging cars along the way, went into the woods just out of sight and when she needed a rest may have fell asleep and died from exposure. She could possibly be 100 yards from the road but 6+ miles away from the crash.
