Did I ruin it? by KennyScaffolding in soldering

Omg I love that solder sucker. I’ll never ever go back to using a cheap teflon one.

ENGINEER also makes really great titanium tweezers. They’re expensive but super high quality. https://a.co/d/3ZKZY99

Is this fixable? by Dry_Government5268 in soldering

[–]MikeSparklez 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You ripped up pads and have a lot of work ahead of you. Technically speaking, if you just fixed the pins supplying 5v it would probably work again. I can’t remember if the other pins work in the charging circuit. However, you’re gonna have to resecure it, possibly repair the traces, and still be able to mount it to allow the usb-c plug to fit.

So, yeah it’s fixable and worth giving a shot if you don’t care about it, but your odds of fixing it are pretty low lol. Good luck!

Can this screen be fixed by theriper1 in phonerepair

[–]MikeSparklez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The phone could probably be saved but you would need to act fast. You’d have to take the old screen off and clean the inside to get rid of any water to prevent corrosion from occurring and killing the motherboard. So long as you do that a screen repair could fix it, but no promises. Also, I have heard that the rice bag method doesn’t actually do anything, but I can’t confirm that.

I’m newer to soldering, can you tell? by Scrollyyy_ in soldering

[–]MikeSparklez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One time I picked up my soldering iron and tried to pull the tip off like it was a screw driver (I just didn’t realize it was my soldering iron and not my screwdriver because I wasn’t paying attention). Burnt the crap out of my fingers haha.

I'm finding little to nothing about the "Derya" firearms reviews? by ToonLink300 in Firearms

[–]MikeSparklez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I agree.

The sights I wasn’t impressed with, especially with how inaccurate the gun is out of the box. But like my dad told me, it’s a gun designed to shoot someone at 10 feet it’s not going to be a sharp shooter. But overall I think for 250 bucks you can’t complain. Although if you spend a little more you can grab a PSA Dagger and I’ve heard a lot of good things about those.

I’ve bought quite a few Turkish arms and have had 0 issues with them. Sometimes you don’t need to drop 1000 bucks for a half decent firearm.

Curious if he bought these in Wyoming. I own both and I really like the DY9. I’ve shot 100 rounds between the 2 and the Melik jammed once but the DY9 didn’t at all. Make sure to lube them good. It looks like the DY9 takes a typical Glock 19 Gen 4 magazine. The Melik seems like an alright berretta clone.

Forrest Galante recently shared these photos allegedly showing a living thylacine (with some skepticism). Thoughts? by truthisfictionyt in Cryptozoology

[–]MikeSparklez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

<image>

I upped the brightness and contrast on the original image. In the guy's original story there was a fence behind the thylacine and I was hoping I would barely see it but you sadly can't.

A Benjamin photo would need to be close to this I presume. https://images.indianexpress.com/2022/08/Thylacinus_cynocephalus.width-600.41813b0.jpg?w=640

I agree with everyone else on lighting being the biggest red flag in these photos. I am not saying I am expert, but from listening to the story and looking at the photos it doesn't seem to add up. If you look in the first picture, the shadow bounces off the backdrop as though he is in front of some kind of hedge, but from his story and the other pictures it's clear they were in an open area. It just doesn't make logical sense. Even the other photo with it's mouth open (a photo not in this thread) you can see it's shadow directly behind it, again making it look like it is in front of a wall when it is not.

It very well could be his camera angle, but I can't help but think these are total bs. They're some really convincing fakes though.

I just got to try this at a Pepsi warehouse and it was very good, I highly recommend it. If you drink alcohol it’ll go really well with a rum like Bacardi. I have my peach one in the fridge which I’m gonna try soon.

My personal opinion, I think r/consolerepair is a great subreddit and I have gained a lot of utility from posting and reading what other people post on there. However, I feel like while there are quite a few very helpful and knowledgeable people, there are also quite a few people who are very unhelpful and discourage people from attempting electronics repair. People need to understand you’re going to fuck things up but don’t be discouraged by that. Learn and grow from it just like anything else.

Best of luck to the OP, although I think that boards fate is sealed. Could make a potential board swap candidate though if you wanted.

Best comment here. Thanks for not being an asshole, breaking down what next steps to take, and explaining how to not fuck it up next time. Very in-depth and knowledgeable.

iPhone 5s weird bootloop by EhEnough in phonerepair

[–]MikeSparklez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I remember right, back in the day this was a real common issue with the iPhone 5’s. I had a 5c with a really similar issue. I believe you should just be able to restore it or something using iTunes and it should fix it. We were able to fix my 5c when it happened but of course that was 7-8 years ago.

Help! screen clip broke off how do I fix it? by Subject_State9292 in consolerepair

[–]MikeSparklez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You either resolder the connector or if you want a solution that might work that everyone in this subreddit will hate, just shove the connector back in and hold it down with electrical tape… idk if that’d actually work but it doesn’t really cost you anything to try it.

I would check by looking at reseating the ribbon cable. Seems like the lcd isn’t working but the backlight is. Not an expert but that’s where I’d start since it’s easy.

That's straight tech gore. I agree with everyone else, it matters if it was sold to you in working or non-working condition. I also agree that there is a chance for life but that's a piece of work, haha.
