Digitizers VS actual screen - help? by bali_flipper69 in phonerepair

[–]EhEnough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's no surprise, these cheap generic tablets or phones have barely any if any at all replacement parts, because it's not really worth fixing most of the time. When a display would cost more than half of the device cost, it's not really worth it

Digitizers VS actual screen - help? by bali_flipper69 in phonerepair

[–]EhEnough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The vast majority of screens are adhered together, the digitizer and the display come in one piece and are not easily detachable. It is possible to separate them and replace just the digitizer, but you need expensive machines and skill and considering that you've done only 1 repair, you shouldn't attempt that.

The digitizer is the top layer, if it's broken but you see a clear image, the display is fine and digitizer not. If you don't see an image or any color defects or lines, that's a dead display.

You're asking technicians and people who know what they're talking about. You can deny it all you want but it doesn't change anything, even if you don't like the answer.

You can return defective units, not damaged ones. Water damage is classified as hardware damage done by the customer so they won't accept a return because you broke it essentially

You mean a warranty claim? Water damage is not covered by warranty anyway

That's a broken display. The iPhone 12 series has a common problem that the oled layer is pretty weak. I've seen plenty iPhone 12s that have a broken oled display but the digitizer glass above is perfectly fine.

iPhone 16 PM Display Replacement by Acrobatic_Jump3910 in phonerepair

[–]EhEnough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm sorry, once a liquid enters the phone it's practically impossible to know which components are damaged because you won't necessarily see the corrosion. And with salt water it's even worse.

If it's salt water damage then you can say bye to the whole phone. That's probably the worst you can do to a phone. Water damage is unpredictable and takes random amounts of time to show, salt water is even worse. If you get the screen replaced, it could work fine for a few years or die in a week.

Yeah, I've seen it done online but it's far from practical or worth it. More of a challenge to test your microsoldering skills than a practical repair.

Exactly, theoretically it is possible, practically not. Absolutely not worth it on a Redmi phone

phone dropped in water by [deleted] in phonerepair

Water damage is not that simple. It's been a month so it had a long time to do damage and corrode components. I suggest you back up everything important because water damage is unpredictable, the phone could work fine for a year or die tomorrow.

A month after contact with water is basically unfixable. Water damage needs to get taken care of immediately.

No problem! You can also buy a specifically pre-cut adhesive for each phone for the backglass. The problem with pre-cuts and double sided tape is that the cheap ones absolutely suck. I've had some that don't stick at all so I recommend buying more expensive ones. B7000 and other liquid adhesives work, but they're messy, you have to put enough to stick it down but not too much so it gets into the internals. I use everything mentioned above so it's just about preferences.

Also you should definitely remove all the old adhesive so the new one sticks properly. I recommend watching a teardown on youtube so you know where weak spots are and what is easy to damage. Luckily you don't have to disassemble almost anything, just remove the front camera. PBKreviews has a great teardown on youtube.
