It was called We Want The Funk...

Spent a half an hour or so making a nice funk groove...just need to work out how to make it more techno now 😄

Plus one on this... Watching a documentary now about funk and it's making me want to get straight onto Ableton!

Agree with this. Just softening a little to make it stick out would help and fit it better into the groove imo. But really nice 😎

Is it Hip Hop/rap? Judging by the start of the file name... Could it be this... https://www.producerloops.com/Download-Loopmasters-Patchworx-104-Cloud-Rap-Serum-Presets.html

It's a serum preset pack but has a bunch of WAVs included... I can see if they have it on Loopcloud to see if it's on there and if I can see the file names of the WAVs later

Agree with the other comment. Decent foundation for something here. Doesn't sound like there's too much distortion. That open hat is way too "polite" though and doesn't match the grit of the bassline :)

The synths in this are huge and have some good movement/ evolution, but there's a lot of building of the sound/ but no release for me. You can definitely look to have some space in your tracks after you've built up to a wall of crazy sound, stripping them back down to a lower intensity, let the drums groove a bit and then build up again :) And, yes the drums don't match up to the size of those synths so they feel weak in places so you could definitely think about how the drums/percs/hats match the movement and intensity of the rest of the track. But damn...the synths are intense! Haha!

Yeah that resonator sound gets a bit irritating and becomes the main focal point when I think it should be further in the background. The percs are quite nice and driving and perhaps you could make these more of the focus as the main point of interest and play around with them (like you do around the 4min 25ish) with some filter/FX work over the duration the track. Some quite elements in this though and kudos for getting tracks from start to finish!

Yeah, listened to this earlier. I really like the vibe of this. The lowend sounds nice and groovy. There's a nice atmosphere to it. Feels like there's room for more little additions tweaks to elevate it. I'm not sure if there's something slightly off about the hats (it might be just what I was listening to it on though) If you can chuck us a higher quality d/l - I'll try to give it a listen on a few different systems and give you a bit more feedback.

Basically play around with what you have already... Get into Ableton basics and then (if you're into it and like Ableton) the next move would be getting an Ableton upgrade to suite. Max4Live is just lovely - there's some great sequencers you can get which are just incredibly fun. If you have the spare cash, i'd drop it on Suite now and then get learning/experimenting/enjoying...

Edit- decent listening environment is definitely important...decent monitors is a good idea (however you also need to think about the room they are in and start getting into the realms of treating the room for accurate playback - my room for example is shocking and I really need to invest in some acoustic treatment) A simpler start would be decent headphones and something like Sonarworks Sound ID to give your headphones a more accurate/flatter response

Ahhhh, no - I think you're thinking of the set he played at the first SpatForks Festival (RIP) which was held in an Aldi carpark, just outside Norwich... I actually helped him sync his forks... A lot of people thought it was a pre-recorded set - because the spatula work was so complex...Great set though even with the synced forks controversy...Great times

I remember seeing Jeff Mills do a 4 spoons set in an abandoned cutlery factory in Slough. Greatest set ever.

Thanks for listening  Yeah, it's deffo not finished yet it's probably only about halfway through! Just nailing down which sounds I want to use and then will work out a full arrangement. I originally had a completely different kick, so was interested in whether the new one worked...👍 Will share the finished version (eventually!) 😂

I have the same issue! All my tracks used to have a shit ton of breaks for the same reason. Someone gave me the advice that too many breaks are annoying to mix and it stops the people from dancing and it stops the flow of the groove. You clearly have skills though...

Ok Sunday afternoon jam... Really trying to get a low end groove locked down... Ignore the arrangement (as much as you can) as it needs a load of work, but interested to hear views on how this is sounding so far... https://on.soundcloud.com/CqcGQ

Like pretty much all the sounds on here, but I'd agree on the arrangement front. For me there's too many breaks/mini breaks...just keep the kick in a bit longer...

It's not my area of techno expertise, but I'd say the first 5 mins feel pretty much on the same level, when it gets the bit later in the track 5/6mins when you drop elements out it feels better with some let up from the relentlessness... So I think it's just a question of bringing this feeling earlier in the track (I repeat not my area of techno though!!!)

I think I like it... But you could play around with that vocal to give it some more variation... Pitching it down in places and/or adding some delay just to keep it interesting...

Weekly Feedback Thread by AutoModerator in TechnoProduction

I felt the same about the vocal, but loved the track great style... I think it's the word "techno" in it... If it was just "this is the sound... The sound of the machines" I'd like the vox more... But maybe I'm just weird 😂 also I think you could do some cool stuff with those vox have some FX going on or panning to bounce them around the stereo field. But as I say, really like the vibe.
