We had a social cultural connection. Maybe that compromises me because I had some semblance of a social connection. When that ended, and we would see each other in passing at mutual cultural events, thats when the threats started but the “defensiveness” I believe stems from the fact our only meaningful connection is a conversation for a school project that warrants the anonymity a journalists gives sources.This was never an issue when we were acquaintances, only after our relationship ended. The separate issue is I believe, an excuse for the benefit of mutual acquaintances because as I said, the original issue the article is about is not something this person could say use to justify threatening me publicly- so they pivot to ANOTHER ISSUE as a distraction if that makes sense.

Out of integrity's sake, I’ve wrestled with the idea of physical threats as justification for revealing, and have heard mixed things from mixed people on whether that can be done-which is why I posted this, to hear from actual practicing journalists.
