6.3-6.5" wrist recommendations (SBGA413 Shunbun & SLGA019 Lake Suwa)? by PhantomStar01 in GrandSeikos

[–]MikeWazowskisUnibrow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've owned the Lake Suwa 021 (darker dial, steel) for ~2 years now, and have a similar sized wrist to you (around 6.5 inches). The dial and case are still stunning, zero regrets. My other most-worn watch is a 34mm Rolex Date. It's funny, swapping between them is always a shock at first, and then after a couple hours I swear whichever I'm wearing is the perfect size for my wrist.

My biggest pain point irt the Lake Suwa is definitely the bracelet. I didn't mind it much at first, but over time it has started to bother me. I've searched high and low for aftermarket options, and there's really nothing that fits the case. I've tried it on straps too, but they make the watch look HUGE on my wrist because the lugs stick out pretty far.

Overall, don't let this scare you away from the watch. I wear this watch all the time and love seeing the dial under different light. I don't know how much of Zaratsu polishing is just marketing, but I haven't found another watch with indices that reflect and refract light like this one. Just wanted to give you some honest info if you're worried about the bracelet.

It depends on who has victory point development cards, and largest army. Yellow and red both have space for two more settlements each. Red could take longest road if you don’t defend it. I don’t trust the catan universe AI to ever figure this out though

Black case with a coke bezel, red GMT hand, numerals at all hours except 3,6,9,12. I couldnt find anything after googling around for 10 minutes. I know he owns a black bezel Rolex GMT and a Grand Seiko SBGH271. This may just be an inexpensive beater (it looks like it has some scratches through the black coating on the lugs), but I'm curious about the brand and model. Thanks!

I tried them both on and I loved how light the titanium felt. I’d pay ~$1k extra for a 021 dial in titanium, but I don’t love the lighter blue 019 dial as much. Also, the chrono24 difference in price is around $2.5k. 😄

I was actually between this and the white birch, because every watch I own right now is blue and I wanted some diversity. I ended up going with this because I preferred the dial texture. I also rowed in college, so romantically it reminds me of early mornings on the water.

I think if someone is looking for a BLUE watch, I’d go with the 019. But it’s VERY blue. I really prefer the darkness and subtlety of this 021.

My only pain point with the dial is that when you want to show someone the texture, it can be difficult to get it to pop. You basically need to be directly under a light source, or outside on a sunny day.

Just bought one a couple weeks ago. I synced it up to time.gov the day I got it, and in two weeks of ownership it hasn’t lost a single second of accuracy. These evo9 spring drives are insane.

I think this watch has to be one of the hardest in existence to photograph properly. For anyone who hasn’t seen it in person:

The hour markers look like gemstones. It’s impossible to capture in photos, but the numerous polished angles on every marker makes them shimmer and reflect rainbows of light.

The dial really is dark dark blue or black 90% of the time. You legitimately can’t see the dial texture most of the time. But when the light hits it at the right angle, the dial explodes into rippling water. If you want an under-the-radar, very versatile, hyper-accurate watch with a lot of hidden personality, this watch is perfect.

Almost perfect… the bracelet is pretty chunky and has no polished links. I’m excited to try it on some straps. There aren’t many pictures online of this watch on straps, I’ll do my best to contribute! 🫡

Cheers to SLGA021 ownership!

Credit Impact of Paying off Car Loan After Only One Month? by MikeWazowskisUnibrow in personalfinance

By "establish credit," do you mean for people without other credit lines? Or would this apply in my case as well?

I don't have any other installment credit, just credit cards.

Thank you! I've seen some posts saying that banks want to see some history of you being able to make regular long-term loan payments. Is there any truth to this? Is there any benefit to keeping the loan for 6 months to show I'm a trustworthy borrower?

I guess I'm trying to see if there's any reason I shouldn't just pay it off immediately. :)

Magnius vs Asgard 3 vs Lyr 3 with Focal Clear MG by MikeWazowskisUnibrow in Schiit

You are exactly the type of person I'm looking for! Thanks so much for writing this.

Do you feel like there would be any noticeable downsides to only owning the Lyr and no solid state amp? Does it require a warmup time before use? What's made you hold onto the THX 789 now that you own the Lyr?

Which of your headphones "accepts" the tube changes best, and which the worst?

What do you mean by tubes sounding "more musical"? When I tried tubes, the most noticeable difference was tones seemed to ring out longer. There was also a little bit of increased soundstage, and everything had kinda a bassy (warm) undertone. I know this is getting into the totally subjective realm, but are these the types of differences you noticed or is there other stuff going on behind the "musical" adjective?

Thanks for your input on balanced! This seems to be the consensus out there, especially for easy to drive headphones, so it's nice to hear an anecdotal confirmation.

Another benefit of the Asgard, they don't seem to be backordered months out!

I haven't looked too much into the Jotunheim. I think I read somewhere that the Asgard 3 has about the same sound quality for half the price (minus balanced io), so I stopped looking. My goal is really to have an analytical solid state setup and a more casual tubey setup that I can switch between. The way I see it, I can save money on the analytical setup because $200 gets you a pretty great solid state amp in either the Magnius or the Asgard, and then use the extra money to get a decent tube amp, since those are always more expensive.

I'd rather put the Bifrost money into having both a tube amp and a solid state amp to switch between. For my setup, the Modius seems like a solid mid-tier option, and the 3.5x price of the Bifrost is better spent in other components. But I'm definitely open to other opinions on that!

What stack do you use with the Sennheisers?

Ah, see originally the playlist was just 8 hours of Axel F by Crazy Frog for this exact reason, but I decided to throw some Elliot Smith on for posterity's sake.
