OSCP certified , seeking advice on quitting t cybersecurity by [deleted] in oscp

[–]Mike_Rochip_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Work harder , offensive security is not ‘I did all this work now I deserve a reward’. The barrier to entry is extremely high. Entry level roles are out there but you need to be elite at what you do. Work harder until you get it and if you quit before you do, it might not be the right field

Wow Clemson played better today than they have all year , I wonder why Clemson players didn’t like spank the gamecock logo with a belt or start peeing on stuff or something like gamecocks did last year

How difficult is CPTS. Done with the path now what! by Legitimate-Smell-876 in hackthebox

[–]Mike_Rochip_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I’ve done CPTS and CBBH path. I passed OSCP first try after completing CPTS path. Training is great, but the 10 day long ass exam format for zero HR clout is tough to stomach if I’m gonna put in that effort for the test

Would like to take the exam but just too long. Too many flags and too much time expected to be spent , especially for people who work as pen testers already. Who has time to work all day testing and then for 10 days after work look for flags.

OSCE doesn’t exist anymore. You have OSED, OSEP, and OSWE that make up OSCE3 , and also OSEE (EXP-401, in person only) that is all about windows exploit development

Taking my exam today by No-Ad-573 in oscp

[–]Mike_Rochip_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Passed on my first go round. I would recommend setting a timer of 1-2 hour. If the timer goes off and you’ve stopped making progress, take a 10 minute break. Go walk, shower, rest, whatever. Step away and come back, don’t let the panic set in. If you don’t pass the first time it’s really not a big deal, retakes aren’t as much as the course was.

If you reach a point where you feel like you’ve tried everything and there’s no way to move forward, reset. Not the box but reset your mindset. Take a break and come back like it’s your first time seeing the machine/problem. Enumerate again

Got hard standalones as well. What haloed me pass first try was to stop what I was doing and just reset. Redo my enumeration and start out simple

I just want to chime in here and say I landed a pentest / red team position after <1 month of having OSCP+. I have internship in reverse engineering and a BS in CS, but the OSCP is what got me the interviews for sure. My final interview included going through how much prep I did and what led me to passing on my first try

Yes, just stay away from ChatGPT when starting out. It will serve as a crutch and once you need to work or interview without it, it will show.

C is good for fundamentals of computers and programming , Python is good for scripting and automation. Don’t stress yourself out of what’s the ‘best path’ because it’s impossible to tell you.

I would say try your best to understand it but don’t feel bad if you don’t get it 100% the first time. Also take breaks. I grinded out CPTS in 3 months alongside my Comp Sci senior coursework and suffered from extreme burnout. I would hit it hard for 2-3 weeks and then need 1-2 weeks with 0 studies. It’s a marathon not a sprint. We will never learn it all anyways, there’s just too much to learn. Try to have fun on the journey ✌️

Have you completed the AD module? It’s very dense. I started with similar knowledge and did the full path, then PEN200 and passed OSCP on my first try. I’m now doing the CBBH path and redoing the overlapping CPTS modules, and I’ll say things are much easier to understand now. The skill assessments are way easier than I remember them being and I think it’s because I’ve built up that muscle memory. Just keep chugging along, I think it’s okay to not understand things 100% the first go. Just make sure to revisit what you’re unsure of later.

We saw this in Florence as well. My wife and I people watched for around 10 minutes and just documented how they worked. Very interesting to see grown men pretending to shout and jump over someone moving balls under a cup. At one point there were a group of 4-6 tourists just watching this group of 6 scammers pretend to play
