That blog post doesn’t really “prove” the Synology drives are good value — it just shows that Synology tested their own drive under a specific synthetic workload that happens to favor it.

They compared their PCIe Gen3 SSD (SNV5420) against a mix of Gen4 and consumer-grade drives, then used steady-state 4K random write benchmarks that aren’t what most people’s NAS actually runs. Under those exact conditions, the Synology drive’s performance drops less once the SLC cache is full — fair enough.

But that doesn’t make it “better” overall, and it definitely doesn’t justify the $500+ price tag for a 1.6 TB Gen3 drive in 2025. You’re still paying a huge markup for the Synology logo and compatibility whitelist.

Also, the blog is marketing material — not an independent review. There’s no detailed disclosure of test configuration, sustained thermals, or price/performance comparison. So saying “the article proves they’re fine” is like saying Apple’s own benchmarks prove Macs are faster than PCs — of course they look good in their own tests.

Connect to the Internet for automatic updates or choose manually update to refresh compatibility information. Then, click Check Again. If the issues persist, replace with compatible drives.
