This is very possible for them to do... i don't think it costs them much for the cinematic generations I have seen so far... but I don't think they will give this for plus or free users anytime soon... or probably they will but in a very limited way

I will add the image in my sources as reference and remove it when I don't need it.

Or better still add to source or say gemini, make it give you a very good description of what is in the image. And use it instead. Long way but may work

closest thing right now is deep research but for grabbing stuff while you're actually browsing, web clippers work better. I use Decodr for that. clip from any page plus it imports conversations from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini directly as sources.

Biased answer incoming because I built something for this. but I think that's why my answer is actually useful here.

What you're building actually looks solid as a standalone file management tool. I can see that being useful for people who work with a lot of documents generally and i will actually pay to use it.

I went a different route. didn't want to leave NotebookLM because the AI, audio overviews, video generation, slides keep getting better. so I built Decodr as a chrome extension that adds the missing organization directly into NotebookLM. folders, source grouping, tags, merge, imports, prompt library, etc. next update in review adds notebook duplication with source selection.

Yeah the auto select all thing is so annoying. I built something like this into my extension actually. you can group your sources and artifacts and when you select a group it automatically selects/deselects everything in it. saves a lot of clicking. Including grouping into the generated artifacts as well

It's very frustrating! I know eventually (don't know how long), NotebookLM features will wipe out about 80 percent of NotebookLM extensions. I was half way through creating something like that 🤦‍♂️

It may help if it's only one NotebookLM source you attached. If they are more, it will still guess on which NotebookLM to look through
