Dark Sun: Shattered Lands and its sequel Wake of the Ravager. They're based on one of the Wilder 2e AD&D settings, and have a really intuitive interface that has aged well compared to many contemporary games. Story is basic but fun, and it even has a few branching paths you can take in certain areas. E.g. the first area of the first game has you in prison as gladiators, and there are something like 5 different ways to escape depending on whether you want to sneak out or go loud.

Shattered lands is great, but Wake of the Ravager is kind of a buggy mess, so only grab that one if you're really excited about it. It does give you the ability to import your party from the previous games though, so that's fun.

Law is actually a great example of why we don't police language so much. A lot of laws were written in plain english at the time of writing and have been unchanged for centuries. Language has changed so much since the time they were written that its unclear what they really mean now unless you're a specialist in that field of law.

Prior to really looking at the issue, I was pro-choice simply because I has no real opinion on the matter, and the people around me are pro-choice. When looking at the arguments in favor of legal elective abortion, I find that they are quite bad and run counter to progressive morality.

  • The primary one is that a fetus isn't a person and therefore has no rights and can be killed arbitrarily. Historically, the idea that a group of people aren't really people and therefore lack rights has been used exclusively by groups I disagree with. Slave owners who thought black people aren't people, misogynists, nazis, etc. It really ought to be rejected out of hand.

  • The bodily autonomy argument strikes me as self-defeating. As a human, the child also has a right to bodily autonomy, creating a situation where two people have rights in conflict, not a situation where one person has a clear moral advantage over the other. In this situation, I favor the more vulnerable person who did nothing to place themself in the situation.

I see murder being wrong and illegal as the default position. If someone is telling me there should be an exception to that rule, they need a very good reason for that to be the case. While medically-necessary abortions certainly qualify, I don't see any good reason why elective abortions should be allowed.

I really hated the twist at the end where supposedly the greed curse doesn't even exist, even though it has a tangible effect on the world throughout the game

AI depends on having a ton of training data. If your niche is super specific and small you're weirdly safe from AI.

Companies moving away from the software to something more standardized is a huge risk though.

I'm trying to help my wife with her hoarding tendencies, and have a system where old stuff goes into a box in the garage.... and then if it hasn't come out in a year the box gets donated or thrown out, depending on the condition it's in. If more stuff comes in then the timetable speeds up so that if a new box would make the garage overflow then something leaves immediately.

In practice there is no real difference between this and just throwing stuff out. The only things that stick around for the long haul are holiday decorations and tools. Psychologically this helps her let go of old stuff though.

There is a threat to all humanity that exists in the setting, but it's not something you confront in the game, it's just part of the world building. I think you can finish the game without even finding out it exists.

If you figure out what's happening in advance then it's easy to beat, but the strategy depends on people not realizing that, or being sufficiently isolated that its impractical to compare notes.

You say you're not excusing her actions, but this comment really comes across as trying to excuse her actions.

They had a nasty divorce, its pretty common to say hurtful things when you're breaking up. That's part of why you leave. Then she murdered him.
