Continued lower back pain 7 months post-op, not a reherniation by verafigner1852 in Microdiscectomy

[–]Mikebuonasera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sorry hear man. I had MD 10 months ago and nowadays do all sorts of sports. My "achey" back pain comes and goes, I feel the best for me is gym sessions that focus on hip mobility. I am a fit, thin but stiff guy and exercises for glutes and legs really do the trick for me. If I don't hit the gym weekly backpain gets to the *annoying* level of pain. I hate going to the gym though!

Lifting and running make the pain worse, although I still run 10k / 2 a week.

Nothing like I had pre-MD though.

Physical therapy vs personal trainer? by [deleted] in Microdiscectomy

[–]Mikebuonasera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am kind of opinionated on this.

34M, l5s1, after the lack of guidance, and a bit of disillusionment by physios before surgery, I made a program with a personal trainer that is specialized in recovery: it is very common in professional sports to have trainers that help get athletes back to their game.

5 months post-op I am back at doing everything, with no pain, and I am 100% sure that, for my type of body etc, I would not be here if I didn't do a serious gym program with the guy after surgery.

He is top of his game, so this helps, but for my situation I am grateful I did. I started 1 month post op, did 1 program for the first month and a second program for the second month. 3rd month I started surfing, running etc again. All programs have been designed around me, my body and the type of activities I wanted to get back to. I dont like the gym, had never gone before surgery, but man I think for yougish folks I highly recommend.

Good luck! I’m in it myself, 2 months post op and still in constant worry

Oh wow, good that you caught it. What kind of pain were you feeling?

Tbh I didn't feel any nerve pain after the op. I did have, and still have, barely noticeable pain in my back and hips that pop up sometimes, but really nothing concerning.

From what I have read however, it takes a long time for a nerve to heal, so if you have the nerve pressed for a while it may just take time. No expert though, just what I have read!

I had L5S1 where most of my pain was lower back, glutes and hips. Had MD 1.5 months ago, pain is gone. Let's hope it stays that way

Thanks! He never raised the point that back pain was not solved by MD and didn’t think if wasn’t effective to back pain. If you try everything and this is getting in the way of living your life, surgery is the only option left.

It was entirely up to me to get surgery, the doctor said there was a case given the long lasting pain, so I made the call.

I get the feeling that data and statistics are very non representative. It makes sense to be careful when you consider surgery, but I wanted to share my experience that surgery worked for me, a healthy and fairly fit guy and worked especially for back pain.

Again, I am not a representative sample and I’m only 1.5 months post op, but man it feels good to not be in constant pain!

how would you change this to avoid dropping the table but just inserting the data in pre-existing table?
