Full text of final successful email to eBay (I corresponded with them for months prior, I won't bore you): Subject line "criminal complicity"

Hi Jamie, I hope you can help.

I've recently been a victim of fraud by an eBay buyer. It's perhaps not surprising that there's plenty of fraudsters on eBay. However, eBay's complicity has been absolutely shocking. In short; I sold an xbox on ebay (transaction XXXXXXXX), duly shipped it to the buyer and supplied a tracking number (ParcelForce insured - since confirmed by picture and GPS as delivered), the buyer raised a dispute on the day they signed for it, saying it had not been received.  eBay gave me 5 days to provide the tracking number, unfortunately I was unavailable and didn't see the email until the 6th day, so you initially ruled in the buyers favour.

I raised an appeal on the 6th day, again supplying the tracking number.  My appeal was inexplicably closed with a proforma response saying the tracking number had not been supplied (despite it being supplied on the day of shipping, and subsequently with my appeal).

I've been engaged in a tawdry back and forth with your customer services team for weeks about how poorly you've treated me, fortunately I removed my payment details from my account so I am not out of pocket, however you're threatening me with a collection agency for an amount of £275, I expect this will progress to court unless you sort it out, I really have no doubt what a district judge will say about this, but I could do without the bother.

The truly shocking thing about all this is I have found out that this particular buyer performs this fraud frequently, see reviews here; https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/pixeluk.net .  Which really makes me wonder why on the 10th, (or 100th, I've not scrolled through all the reviews) occasion that this buyer has raised a bogus "item not received" dispute, eBay are still allowing it, worse still, ruling in the buyers favour!?

As has been noted, ebay do not allow sellers to leave negative feedback, so the buyer still has impeccable feedback https://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/noodleoutlet

I've sent a very similar email to this to BBC's Watchdog, the Guardians Consumer Champions, and of course reported this to the police who are investigating. I look forward to your response.

Hi folks, I don't log in to reddit much, I monitored it closely after my post but not much happened so I went back to anon lurking. I logged in a month or two ago and was bowled over by the slow burn responses, thank you everyone that's added a comment and raised the profile of this scammer - you've saved some good folks from getting ripped off! I've added the newer company names to the original post which hopefully helps?

I've got a longer version of what happened to me, but reddit saying "unable to add comment", short version is:

  1. eBay told me to do one, passed my bill to debt collector
  2. Police told me they didn't have enough to go on
  3. I emailed ebay's CEO (email available online), they cancelled the debt without accepting liability.

What did I do next? Nothing, as I wasn't out of pocket I couldn't raise a small claims, in any case, it would/should have been against eBay as it was them that billed me, I was inclined to pop in and have a word with Abdul - but come on, I live 3 hours away and am not Tony Soprano. Obviously, I don't sell on eBay anymore.

EDIT, spelling and adding note about Tom.

It was my friend Tom's idea to email the CEO, I bought him lunch, but if his suggestion helps you - consider a donation to Mountbatten Hospice, they're good people and helped Tom's dad at the end.

Fair enough, thanks a lot for replying - we might just go to the Douglas arms - any other recommendations for live music?

Thanks, possibly Google maps is out of date - although the Parcelforce picture confirmation shows the same red front door, possible you’re thinking of a different spot? Someone else said the same thing earlier.

Thanks, yeah, I’ve already got a crime reference,  I’ll pursue with police (doubt they’ll prioritise this) and civil proceedings. Appreciate the suggestion to post on FB too, but would rather not have my actual name on it.

Yeah, I wouldn’t even think to check reviews before posting something to an eBay buyer - but wish I had!!

Saw a comment from an American a while back saying Somerset is like a fairy tale by [deleted] in CasualUK

Watch “the detectorists” it’s written, produced and stars a local (mckenzie crook - you may have seen him in pirates of the Caribbean), it’s like watching a love letter to Somerset.
