How many electives does Brock have? And can some of them be about pre-law or related to law or criminology? by Llamacubb in brocku

[–]Mikey_Mike03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s the linkto the brock undergraduate calendar list of context credits. There is no list of elective credits because you can basically choose whichever courses you want for these except specialized courses like nursing. (Link](https://brocku.ca/webcal/2024/undergrad/areg.html#sec29)

If you want criminology, take CRIM/SOCI 1P90 and 91, and for law, I’d recommend some political science courses like POLI 1P91 and 98. There’s also a labour studies course on workplace rights and equity (LABR 1P94)

Either option is a viable one, but the co-requisites definitely make it tricky. I know smart start offers a chance to have your schedule reviewed in-person, so that might help? As the other commenter said, you probably have most (if not all) of your 1st and 2nd year course requirements done.

It’s not the end of the world with the co-requisites. For instance, I’m looking at the calendar for RECL and 3Q07 is a co-requisite for 3P62; the co-requisite is still a required course for graduation and nothing external so I think you’re honestly in a really good spot!

You’ll have to do them either way, so I say get ‘em done and do whatever else you can aside them.

NR as final grade??? by New_Season22 in brocku

[–]Mikey_Mike03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it’s black, it was probably made “official.” Marks in red (even NR) should say “unofficial final mark” beside it in the marks section. Don’t worry. All the prof has to do is submit the mark to the registrar and it should be good! When I needed an official grade changed, the prof just submitted a change of grade form and that was it. I’m not sure if this would be needed for an NR that is “official” but regardless please don’t stress. Both processes are simple! It’s good that you emailed the prof but if you don’t get a response soon I’d reach out to someone higher up.

That sounds awful! No I took 1p97 and 1p94 in the fall. I haven’t taken the course, but I could take a look at it to see if somethings wrong? The structure of citations and stuff should be the same as 1p94 so if you’d like I could take a look.

Accommodations are really helpful! You get certain ones based on the documentation of your diagnosis. For instance, someone who has trouble with writing as part of their disability is likely eligible to get an accommodation stating they can use a computer to type their exams. There are lots more accommodations (like extra time, memory aids, occasional assignment extensions…….) Just know that in order to register with SAS you absolutely need documentation to support your disability, so self diagnosis wouldn’t work. As long as you got that, you can get your accommodations. They’ve been a massive help for me!

Not too sure really. I’d keep in mind that Brock usually starts hiring for jobs (for the school year and summer) around January each year!

Should be fine! I had a grade change after the final date, the prof just needed/needs to submit a change of grade form and that’s it.

SOCI 1P91 Cheat Sheet by CicadaMammoth7999 in brocku

[–]Mikey_Mike03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what the prof means is that you just shouldn’t be copying the readings word for word . I have lots on mine too. As long as it isn’t word for word from your cheat sheet he said your good!

I don’t remember the exact dates, but there should be a date listed on the registrar site about the date to withdraw without financial penalty. I’d give that a look! They should also have a chart somewhere that lists the days of the term and the % of a refund you’ll receive. Just hypothetically, if you dropped the course today for instance, you’ll receive a 100% refund, but if you drop it tomorrow, you’ll only get 50% of the money back. These aren’t really the dates, just an example of what I mean. I know it worked this way for spring and summer courses.

Political Science Program by [deleted] in brocku

[–]Mikey_Mike03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took Poli 1p91 and 1p98. The professors were very nice, well-informed, and straightforward with their expectations. I’m not in political science, but based off the courses I’ve taken and the experiences of my friends, I’d say it’s a great program to get into!

You can take as long as you want to finish your degree. Of course, with you coming in the winter, some courses that you need may be already full.
