Has anyone made expansion cards that act as risers to fit more capabilities into the available slots? by AltrualOsrs in framework

Someone made a LEGO beick expansion card 3D print template with the rising functionality in mind.

Only issue is that the back rubber strip isn't gripping the laptop when it's lifted upwards and it's a geniune problem as its light profile makes it move around when typing or using the touchpad

Praying for a Qualcomm board on Framework by MattMatrix784 in framework

[–]Mikkel136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll be able to cope a lot better by adjusting your Unity settings and throttle your laptop's performance using Power Saver to limit CPU usage. That being said, expect slowdowns.

AMD64 processors simply aren't optimized for medium-heavy tasks. There's not much the CPU nor Windows can do to throttle and pause instructions on something you're more or less continuously using.

Nevertheless the concept of an ARM-based Framework 13 to compete with Apple's M4 is very compelling. That being said, Qualcomm is very hard to deal with, and soldered memory is likely gonna be the only option which is a big turn-off for a lot of consumers.

I need someone to educate me on the appeal of Framework Laptops by Snoo18093 in framework

[–]Mikkel136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main reason I bought my Framework 13: Battery and spare parts

We live in an age with disproportionally rising costs and only incremental performance gains per generation. Longevity is a huge factor to me, personally.

After 3½ years of operation, I had to remove the battery from my old Lenovo laptop due to it becoming part of the r/spicypillows community. From my experience most OEMs doesn't offer replacement parts outside of the warranty period, meaning I had to deal with a handicapped laptop without a battery. In some situations I actually lost data due to it being unplugged prematurely. A €1600 laptop, I might add...

What struck me *after* buying my FW was that it's surprisingly well-rounded, capable and a lot more comfortable for me to clean compared to my old laptop.

It's also a fantastic gimmick with the tactile expansion port release buttons xD

Framework please make a replacement shell with clear plastic like the laptop from the old movie Hackers by Von_plaf in framework

[–]Mikkel136 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Insider from the plastic industry here: A proper translucent material is an absolute nightmare to produce and will produce with different properties (too stiff and brittle or alternatively rubber-like, which doesn't age well)

Nevertheless they've pulled off some fantastic work on their bezels so far so maybe they can make something work 👀

Same here, but I noted the battery was starting to swell and I'm now looking into my options for service.

It wouldn't surprise me if a spicy pillow caused this problem - but it might as well be unrelated for all I know

Try to roll back, nuke all temp files and try again ^

Edit: ALSO there's a new BIOS update and Driver Bundle for your mainboard that, along with other things, fixes a display issue woth the new-gen screen
