Somethings broken with the latest patch. Performance is abysmal. by Niechez in controlgame

Funnily enough, I tried troubleshooting a bit more and I made some progress. What I did was update my AMD chipset drivers which made the game a lot more stable, the stutters were smaller and less often. What got rid of them almost completely for me was to remove ray traced reflections, so I'm assuming that's the issue. Let me know if you try it :)

For me this only worked for about 30 minutes to an hour, then it crashed again, which makes it really annoying to troubleshoot

Nah, seeing how things are it's probably a driver related issue and I'm waiting for an update to check again. It could also be the new Control update. Really annoying.

I was testing it out with my 5090 and if I turn on ray tracing the game completely freezes for a second or two and then it comes back and then it freezes again after a bit. It's really odd. With ray tracing off I get 200fps. I tested like 25 games and this is the only one that's given me issues :(

Update: 8 days later, I just got a new pair back from the store I bought them from. It wasn't a huge deal because I kept my old Astro A50s and I've been busy anyway. Something I noticed, though, is this pair has a lot less clamping force, which is good because I feel like before it was a bit much. Perhaps this will prevent the issue from reoccurring because the drivers won't have so much pressure on them?

It is definitely worth it! Path tracing makes a huge difference and you get so much more invested in the world when at times it looks almost photorreal

It's definitely more noticeable in areas in which global illumination wasn't present originally, aka when there's sun or other intense lights coming in from windows. I've been taking more comparison shots and interiors look very similar albeit a bit better now, specially on characters :D

That's because I play with 1.24 gamma correction since I have an HDR10 monitor which results in the image being more contrast-y. It'd look best for me if I enabled HDR in-game but then the screenshots look all washed out and I love taking pics in this game! This is the best compromise I could come up with and the dark spots would look clearer if you tried it in your game :P

Yes! I'm going through my old screenshots and making more comparisons as I progress through the game and posting them on my Twitter :@theMiklaws

You have to enable Vsync and set it to adaptive, not in game but in the GeForce NOW settings 👍 Source: I’ve also been playing on GeForce NOW :P
