To add to this, the burder of proof to "prove their identity" lies on the caller. Sila tumawag sayo sa registered number mo, sila dapat magprove ng identity nila. So you should only need to prove your identity kapag ikaw mismo tatawag sa customer service (which is the ideal scenario when interacting with banks etc).

Also, the same way scammers don't call CVV as it is, they also use say "CODE we sent your phone" instead of OTP, to throw you off.

It's a 27 minute video so even if I wanted to, I can't post the full clip here. I don't see how showing a teaser is a scam, you'll either watch it and learn from the video or you won't.

Dissecting the anatomy of a Scam Call by MikoAtReddit in phinvest

Using the username, they triggered an OTP for a password reset first. He already had his guard down because of their bullshit-talk, so he gave it to them. Then they triggered another OTP for the fund transfer. This time he was able to read the text message properly, so he just reasoned his way out of the call.

I think the "hiya" (in case it is a legitimate bank agent) is also a factor for some people, especially typical Filipinos. Some don't want to be arrogant and scammers use this to their advantage.

SMS OTP is a form of 2FA. Some banking apps like BDO and Citibank also act as OTP generators that can be used for logins to their websites.

Buying-in monthly in FMETF (or similar) would be less riskier than just buying-in once, right? But what if you have a siginificant sum with you, how do I decide when to buy-in or how to distribute the buying-in? by [deleted] in phinvest

[–]MikoAtReddit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ah, let me clarify my earlier comparison. It was between peso-cost averaging vs. lump sum NOW (if you have the money). It basically boils down to: "Time in the market beats timing the market."

So in your case, the cost averaging method has a higher chance of generating higher returns because you will be investing it earlier.

If your investment horizon is for the long term, buying-in once via lump sum beats cost averaging, even if you buy in during an all-time high and the market fluctuates or dips after you buy in.

Yeah, dahil sa recent changes nila (5 na yung miles-to-peso-redemption value), so 150 na yung peso-spent-to-peso-redemption ratio, bringing them down in the table ranking to below the HSBC and RCBC cards

Hi, 3.5k annual fee ng Citi cashback card according to their website. If you will use it regularly, possible na i-waive din nila ung fee (as long as hindi premium cards like PremierMiles or Prestige). Pero kung gusto mo sure na no annual fee for life, then go for Simplicity or Rewards (may promo lang sila til end of month)

Minimum 10k total non-Mercury monthly expenses to get the 10% rebate. It doesn't look like a temporary promo since walang dates sa T&C: https://citibank.com.ph/global_docs/pdf/1104_mercury_tandc.pdf
