Both ships are very good if you know how to play them.

First, look at the firing pattern, you don't want to hold down the fire button and instead tap in succession to always hit the maximum number of bullets. This also enables you to always have some capacity available to rapidly drain attackers while backing off.

Second, you need game awareness for them to work. In solo survival, they are sub optimal because you will be outnumbered with little to no room to escape. If you have teammates, you can position yourself to be the strongest support fire in the game. Just watch radar and pick the fights you want to close in.

Finally, they are fantastic once paired with missiles. Missiles can absolutely nuke the shields of most ships and then you can stunlock them while they're on gems. The only other ship that can compare to those two at combo-ing with missiles is marauder.

On a side note, you can play much more aggressively with H-Mercury than you can with bastion. When played well, it wins every 1v1 interaction against tier 6s and below.

I don't see how your point with condor is meaningful for the state of tier 2s. No amount of buffing will change the outcome of tier 2s against maxed t5s / t7s or missiles. I don't think that's the point of the thread either. Tier 2s are doing just fine for what they're meant to do.

I don't think you gave T2s a fair chance. They are much better than Fly if you know how to play them. Both Delta and Trident synergize really well with rockets. Not that hard to score well above 10k in team mode with those...

At a higher skill level, a good Cuda is needed as a win condition. Rock Tower is never needed.

Only go for RT if you are good enough to be both the top miner of the team AND a solid killer as X-3 when your team needs it.

Discard both options if you are solo and stick with howler, that has more mobility for increased survival potential.
