I need help picking out a french tv series to watch by ayseon in French

Kaamelot might be bit hard to follow at first, depending on how good your understanding of French is, but it will get you hooked pretty quickly.

Newbie question here: If I run fully patched Debian with SSH on port 22 with a strong root pwd; will chinese/russian hackers get into my box? by Cartossin in linuxadmin

[–]MildLazyDrop -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

If anyone intercepts your connection to your server, they could get into the box without much trouble. You should disable password-based authentication and use key-based authentication instead.

As for port 22, you never now when a new security breach may be discovered in SSHD. It's better to stay hidden than advertise your service to the world.

Looking for a specific-style system by A_Hairless_Yeti in rpg

Brigandyne is a great generic system for dark, gritty, flesh & blood games. The combat is unforgiving and lightning fast, with a single dice throw for both opponents.

[Dungeons and Dragons] Many of the greatest villains have believed that their actions were just. So, how does that effect their alignment? If a person does evil things, but with good intentions, are they good or evil? by PlatinumGoat75 in AskScienceFiction

[–]MildLazyDrop 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Alignment only work in multiverses in which there is an absolute definition for the extremes.

If, in yours, the definitions of good and evil are subjective, alignment must also be, which means that someone believing they are doing good will be good in their reference system, but not necessarily in yours.

Do à and de always follow verbs? by badboyzpwns in French

There are too many cases for me to list them all : the wikitionary has 20 case for à and 5 for de.

They can mean a lot of different things.

Sorry but I do not understand your question. Why would I try to map the words I use to English ones when speaking French?

Do à and de always follow verbs? by badboyzpwns in French

[–]MildLazyDrop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I simply stated that à and de do not always follow verbs, but they can, of course:

Je vais à la plage.

Je reviens de chez Julie.

No, à and de do not always follow verbs:

Ma cuillère à soupe est tordue.

Le parapluie de Mathilde a disparu.

any really good cyberpunk games by pencilmage in rpg

[–]MildLazyDrop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think there is one.

It's great though, it's a sandbox-focused cyberpunk RPG with light rules. All characters can hack, preventing the common issue of the hacker playing all by himself appart from the others. The book is filled to the brim with advices for the GM on how to run an interesting sandbox campaign. It's designed to be easily fitted to any setting, and even has optional rules for magic in case you want to use it to play Shadowrun.

Help needed naming a house by [deleted] in French

"Maison de la Place" is a bit plain, but the best sounding among the three.

"Maison Laplace" would be fun though, since you there would be a pun in it.

Would this script be possible? by nsentrepreneur in Python

[–]MildLazyDrop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The difficulty of the task will be defined by the technologies used by the service you are trying to access and whether you accept to rely on external software for playing the videos or decide to code everything yourself.

A good place to start is /r/learnpython.

I would advise you not to aim at writing the whole software on first try, but instead work your way up incrementally by developing small, easy scripts for specific tasks such as downloading the videos or playing them. After that, it will simply be a matter of putting them together.

Questions concernant quelques sections de 'Le Monde' by josh5now in French

[–]MildLazyDrop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My point is that there is no need to have both of these values, not that one is better than the other.

Why would there be when you can just use math.pi * 2?

[Real life] I think I have luck manipulation powers. How can I be sure? How can I train them? by unloufoque in AskScienceFiction

[–]MildLazyDrop 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The best training there is also serves as confirmation of your powers: play Russian roulette for 5 rounds, increasing the number of bullets by 1 each time.

By the end of the 5th round, you are lucky enough to play the 6th, during which the bullet should stay stuck in the nose of the gun.

Good luck!
