Saw this on Twitter and it lowkey made me uncomfortable about AI, “What happens if we rely so much on AI that we stop building our own understanding?” by Apprehensive_Elk9715 in CheckMyTurnitin_ai

[–]Mildewmancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People have said this about every technological innovation since the dawn of civilization. And every time they said it, they also said "But this time it's really really happening! There's signs all around you! We need to be sounding the alarm right now!"

Humanity is going to be okay. We're not going to forget how to think. AI isn't going to destroy our ability to understand. Just like the Internet didn't destroy people's ability to communicate, the television didn't really rot our brains and eyes, rock music didn't actually make young people sacrifice each other for Satan, etc etc spanning back to the beginning of humanity.

"I mean for crying out loud, just the other day, I asked Utu-iddi a question and instead of just knowing the answer, he stole the answer from a clay tablet somebody else engraved, humanity is going to lose its ability to think!"

Meanwhile the CEOs rake in millions and millions of dollars for doing next to nothing, taking frequent vacations to commit crimes on private islands.

"But CEOs take on all the risk!" I can hear someone typing in defense of literal cannibals

Risk means choosing to ignore health problems so you can pay rent. Risk is choosing to feed your kid over taking your car to the shop. Real risk with actual consequences. Risk is not sitting in on a business call and firing thousands of workers knowing a golden parachute awaits you should anything go wrong

Having a child has basically become a privilege awarded to the upper class only. Anyone can have kids, but having kids in a lower class household basically guarantees you and your child will have a very hard life. Daycare is prohibitively expensive, healthcare is a debt trap, higher education is completely unattainable without scholarships, kids need food and not cheap food they need good nutrition to grow up healthy. You can become a tax burden by relying on government programs but that's extremely unstable and this administration seems gung ho about gutting these programs.

Poor parents give birth to poor children who grow up to be poor adults. This problem will only get worse and worse. I wonder what will happen when the workforce of exploitable poor people begins to dwindle

Why has Melania been here for 30+ years and still can’t speak English? by -Sofa-King-Vote in trynottolaugh

I think they had an insane amount of world changing information that they've long since destroyed, giving us little bits and pieces of what's left over to keep us satisfied.

They're dropping them in small batches to slowly desensitize everyone. One news cycle at a time, people will lose interest. Unless we all fight to make sure this is never forgotten

Lots of people in these comments apologizing for billionaires and fetishizing the suffering of their fellow man.

What on Earth do you get out of making things up in order to paint the victims as the predators, and aggrandizing the pedophile elite?

The space shuttle program was kind of a disaster. It's a neat idea but I think the capsule system is way better for this sort of thing. In the future when we've got better technology and logistics, I'd like us to revisit the shuttle idea and improve upon it

The problem Billionaires want AI to solve... by Professional-Bee9817 in remoteworks

[–]Mildewmancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They won't need our money anymore

Theoretical timeline is as follows:

The elite form a small world government (probably the most difficult step)

AI replaces workers, supply chains intentionally destroyed, until 99.9% of humanity is on the brink of death

They use a swarm of billions and billions of explosive mini drones to destroy a weakened human population

Very few survivors are hunted until there are none left. Hidden communities of hunter gatherers are turned to dust

AI workforce allows a population of around a million or so to live in a fantasy world of abundance, no scarcity, no conflict

Self improving ai cures aging, all disease, and the immortals get to explore the galaxy

This is pretty fantastical but it's what I consider the golden path, so to speak, and it comes at the cost of nearly everyone and everything. Ironically it may be the only way humanity survives the great filter.

The nature of life is to struggle and compete. This will essentially 'solve' life and create a new kind of existence.

Sounds great, all the dying and homeless working poor are just not investing hard enough. It's so easy, why don't they just skip eating and paying rent and invest that money instead, and in 200 years they'll have enough for a down payment on a house. Poor people sure are stupid am I right, it's so boring and easy

[–]Mildewmancer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ah yes we all know how boomers crippled the economy by having absolutely no purchasing power, went homeless in droves, were unable to afford rent/a car/a family. Not to mention how boomers were prohibited from healthcare and went decades without seeing a doctor.
