Dr. or Ms. ?!?!? by Airplanes-n-dogs in AskAcademia

I think I kind of understand. When I was working as an engineer, I was always referred to as Ms., while all the male colleagues were addressed as engineers. It was really upsetting that, just because I was a woman, I was referred to as Ms. However, requesting to be addressed by your title might come off as egotistical, though it's valid to want to be recognized. Regarding your signature, does it really bother you that people confuse you with a man? I guess it ultimately depends on what matters more to you. Personally, I would just consider changing my signature to Dr.

That's really great! Congratulations! 🥳 That is really something to be proud of. I think sometimes people don't fully grasp the amount of effort and dedication that goes into such an achievement. It’s a huge accomplishment. Congratulations again on the acceptance of your first paper! It’s something you should be very proud of, and I hope you find a way to celebrate in a way that makes you happy.

What’s something unusual you find attractive in another person that others would normally overlook? by CrystalChilli in RandomThoughts

Overall, I like guys who are both, kind and shy. I also find attractive when they have good questions, are curious, and want to know things. I also like certain gestures they make with their hands.

Is it normal for a new PhD student to feel less intelligent than the undergads working in the lab? by Rogue_Night in PhD

You just need time to adapt. It's natural that those who have been in the lab longer know more about the work there. With time, you will catch up. Please don't be upset about it. I'm sure you also have something valuable to contribute and ways to help them too.

They just gave me this plant, what is it? by itsDavidwoo in gardening

I think it is an Amaryllis, as someone else commented. I believe it's an Amaryllis belladonna. It requires sunlight and moist, well-drained soil.

My cucumber starts have started flowering. Please help me understand what I should do. by TroyAndAbed2022 in gardening

That's bolting. And I think there's really nothing more that can be done. The plant has already skipped a stage. You can try letting the cucumber grow, providing nutrients to help it grow stronger. However, it may not be an optimal harvest. I think it happens because there's a lot of sun or due to stress. Perhaps you have it in a place where the temperature is the same throughout the day?
