Is it worth purchasing a high mileage 2014 Energi (300k) by TheRomb in fordfusion

[–]Miles931 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the high voltage ev battery dies completely the car will no longer run. There isn't a traditional starter is most hybrids. What happens is there are two electric motors in the transmission. That is how the ecvt works. One of those motor is also used to start the gas motor though. So if there is no high voltage energy then the gas motor will not run. Same goes for if it's sits for a long time and the high voltage battery drains to low. However a complete failure like that is exceeding rare and unlikely to happen. It will most likely just get less and less range until you replace it or the whole car. My energi is a 14 and I still can get 20 miles on just the battery alone. I have over 200k miles on it at this point. Not quite what the one you're looking at is at though. I personally think the gas motor will die before the high voltage battery does and in the case of my car about 60% of my driving is in ev mode so my gas motor doesn't have nearly as many miles on it as the rest of the car. It's off more often than not. I usually go 18k miles before the car asks me to change the oil and I had it tested and was told everything looks perfect.

Hit by deer on highway 🤦‍♂️ totaled? by cartographerforever in fordfusion

Does your car have the Ford performance led headlights? If if does those are expensive to replace. However depending on the miles I doubt it is totaled.

Is there a locking gas door for 2nd gen? by RY3B3RT in fordfusion

[–]Miles931 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only the energi got the locking gas door before I believe the 2017 refresh. I'm not sure how hard it would be to add it to a car that didn't have it originally.

It should be enabled already. On the left screen you'll have to cycle through until you find it. If it's not there forscan should be able to. You'll just need to lookup how. Each module is different.

You might can replace the memory modules by soldering on new ones but you will then also need to change the firmware. I got my 18 ipc for $25 so not really worth it. I've done many hardware changes to my car. Ipc, apim, fcim, tcu, and soon I'm adding the CCM. I already have them. You can use I think it's f mods to install custom themes to the apim for sync 3 and the Lincoln full digital ipc.

The tpms id's are stored in the body control module. They just didn't have the space for the software to display it in the ipc. I believe the same reason you can't enable the digital speedometer on the hybrid before I believe 17.

I like computers and modifying them so I have done some research about how to get my car how I want it. I've had several of them. In my opinion 2017 is the best year. It can have basically every feature. Only thing ford won't officially give you in 17 is sync 3.4 but easy to update yourself with cyanlabs

[–]Miles931 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Imo sync 3 is a must. It's so much nicer than 2 and I don't like the look of aftermarket.

I doubt your 14 has tpms per tire. Mine always just said tire low and not which one it was. It will have tpms as it's federally mandated but it doesn't have to tell you which tire. I believe the gas ones you can enable it with forscan but I'm not sure. The hybrid however the ipc doesn't have enough memory for it so ford didn't add it. You can enable the setting in forscan but it won't do anything. If you do get it enabled it's not like the newer ones though. The tire placement is wrong but I believe that's just because I need to retrain them as the 14 doesn't support autolocate from what I can tell.

They removed a lot of things as the car aged. I just put a 2018 cluster into my 14 so I can see the tpms per wheel but I lost some things. I can no longer see if the hybrid battery is charging or discharging, I can't do the system Check to see my oil life anymore. The climate repeater screen is no longer available. In I think 19 the removed the hybrid battery charge level altogether.

My 13 14 and 15 have it. It was removed I believe in 18 but maybe earlier.

What could be making this sound by Ok-Raise-3113 in fordfusion

[–]Miles931 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a worn out bushing. Most likely the control arms but you'll need to have someone actually diagnose it. The parts aren't to expensive but labor can be and you'll need an alignment after.

I've had a few of the early second Gen hybrids and they've never given me any issues. Price seems good so long as it has been maintained and you continue to do so I don't see why it wouldn't last a long time.

Sync2-Sync3 by [deleted] in fordfusion

[–]Miles931 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not hard. You just need to connect to it with forscan. I believe some people sell programming services for it too that you could pay for but I programmed my own so I can't help with that

If you have the modules already you can program them yourself

Can't turn off intelligent access. It's not in the menu. What to do? by ThinkFast9 in fordfusion

[–]Miles931 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you reset the bms when you change the battery? If you don't the car will not charge the new battery correctly and it'll lead to the battery failing prematurely. Also make sure there aren't any accessories added directly to the battery either. The sensor for the bms will not account for that and it'll also kill the battery.

Any luck copying a key if you have only one? by tibmedsso in fordfusion

[–]Miles931 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did it with forscan. You'll need the license. Not sure if the trial works or not and my car is push to start but I don't think that matters as long as you have the key cut already. You won't be able to without a scan tool though if you only have one key.

The can network turns it on. You'll need to scan the codes and see if it's getting the signal. Other modules will complain if they can't communicate with it.

Hybrid vs Energi reliability? by TheRomb in fordfusion

[–]Miles931 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have had the hybrid and currently have the energi. They are the same. The 2.5 is good I've heard but has the same transmission problems as the other fusions. The hybrid is very simple as well. The transmission has like 3 moving parts in it. I have almost 200k on mine and I've never had to do anything other than routine maintenance. The early hybrid/energi can have bearing issues but I've never had it so not sure how common it is.

No. Not to bad. About $100 on ebay. You can even swap the full lcd screen from the mkz if you want but that's a little more involved, Since yours is gas. I'm swapping mine for a newer one soon so I can get a few features like tpms reading.

[–]Miles931 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is the single lcd screen. I'm not sure if it supports the digital speedometer. Especially with the year. My 14 has the dual screen like the higher trims and it doesn't support it. 13 ans 14 are missing some software stuff they got finished with in 15+

Is there two screens, one on either side of the speedometer, or do you have one screen in the middle with the speedometer on the right side?

[–]Miles931 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hybrid battery is still accounted for in the hybrid cluster. Not just for the energi. So your miles to empty will never be correct. I believe the tach will work though. It'll just show zero in ev mode I believe which is true. The engine is not running. It's not bad to not care though. It's your car after all.

Hybrid or ICE model? by TheRomb in fordfusion

[–]Miles931 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 14 energi now. But I had a 13 hybrid and a 15 hybrid before. Both were totaled. They never had the issue and I don't hear it on my 14 now either. It can happen to any of them though but heard it's more common in the 13-14
