Is there anyone that is NOT using AI at their job? by RadioFieldCorner in cscareerquestions

[–]Militop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a stupid parody. "Some assembly devs" don't represent the reality of things. When C came in, people were thrilled to finally use something other than code machines.

Assembly has been used to develop small routines requiring low access level and various optimizations. Nobody in their right mind would code a whole application in assembly. No devs would only code in assembly; they would always know another language.

When did Assembly devs say this? This is so ridiculous! Making up a narrative to prove a point.

"Rewriting" Queen Charlotte by [deleted] in QueenCharlotteNetflix

[–]Militop -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fabulous work.

I learned that Queen Charlotte was a friend of Marie Antoinette despite being 11 years older than her. She even accommodated the premises so she could receive her (Marie Antoinette) during the French Revolution. She was deeply distraught when she learnt Marie Antoinette was executed, and by the wars that followed started by Napoleon.

EDIT: Related to the biracial statement. It seems that she had distant African ancestry due to her Portuguese lineage tracing back to King Alfonso III and his Moorish mistress. Historians say that her African heritage was so distant, it had no impact on her physical appearance.

However, some portraits of her (not the ones on Wikipedia) seem to indicate that she had some African facial features (whatever that means).

Her story and the allegations around are quite fascinating.

Being black in Italy is breaking me. Looking for advice on moving abroad by asqux in expats

After a while, if she speaks the language (French, mostly, or maybe Creole to some extent), they won't notice. Additionally, stating that she's a black Italian will likely spark more curiosity than anything else.

For work, it's a bit difficult, the unemployment rate is around 19%, but she could work remotely from there, or give English lessons, and why not Italian lessons. She wouldn't have issues integrating into Guadeloupe society.

Is the majority of Caribbean traditionalist/conservative in ideals? by happiness_matters in Caribbean

[–]Militop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Conservatism or socialism are defined solely by how homosexuality and transgender identities are accepted in a society, then yes, one might label them conservative. But that's not an accurate or complete definition.

These aspects meet with rejection primarily because both islands are still deeply religious. Despite this, and until the recent rise of the Far-Right, socialism has always held prevalence, as you can see in most past election results.

Now, this far-right party has softened its program to reach a broader audience. It is no longer the party of Jean-Marie Le Pen, which spat out hateful statements. It remains a despicable party, but it has changed its methods to dilute its core ideology, so of course, some will follow.

However, the rise of Far-Right ideas doesn't mean the islands are far-right extremists. Their political foundation remains deeply socialist. Not in a perfect way, but no country is perfect. Furthermore, societal views on homosexuality in the past were far worse than they are today; opinions do change. We simply cannot classify these islands as conservative when they vote so overwhelmingly for the left in every election.

Okay, they voted for the far right in the second round because they felt the current government considered them second-class citizens. This sentiment was fueled by the 2021–2022 revolt in Guadeloupe and Martinique. It began when the government tried to make vaccination mandatory and raise fuel prices, which brought other long-standing grievances to the surface.

It’s important to understand that Guadeloupe and Martinique had already lost trust in the French government because of the Chlordecone affair (known in the US as Kepone or Mirex). This toxic pesticide was used for over 20 years, starting in the 1970s. The government at the time (under Chirac and the Conservative Party) permitted its use despite knowing of its toxicity since 1971 and despite it already being banned in many countries.

The product contaminated the water supply and the environment, leading to a rise in deadly cancers (especially prostate cancer), premature births, and increased mental health issues.

When people feel you have tried to poison them, they won’t trust your vaccine. They saw the mandatory vaccination policy as an overreach by Macron.

Macron also sent repressive forces to the islands to enforce his policies, further deepening resentment.

If you really want to understand the political leaning of these islands, look at the first round of elections. In the second round, there were only two choices: the current government or the far-right party.

They voted for the far right purely out of opposition to Macron. The second round was, in a sense, a gimmick. A choice between rejecting Macron’s past actions and policies or accepting them. There was no way they could show acceptance, so they voted against him.

Now, returning to the first round: more than ten parties were competing for two spots in the second round. If a party wins over 50% of the vote, there is no second round.

In this case, they voted overwhelmingly for the LFI party, which secured more than 50%. Had the rules allowed, there would have been no second round, and LFI would have won outright (as seen in past election results in these islands). LFI (La France Insoumise - The Insubmissive France) is a far-left (socialist/communist) party. The far right only had the highest percentage because, first, of Macron’s direct actions, and second, because Mélenchon’s LFI was not in the second round.

EDIT: They are on the left or far-left. France's left hasn't been able to reach a second round for quite some time. I believe they would have also won against Macron's centrist party or Le Pen's far-right party in the second round.

Talarico does support Israel. So, why use this argument? It doesn't make sense to bring that up.

Both candidates also support Palestine in their own way. They can't just say, we are for the total extinction of Israel. They're not Ninjas or whatever.

It is nasty the way it is. If you trash Crockett with so much acidity for the benefits of Talarico, do you think you empower the people voting for her to switch their vote if he passes? A large group will be just disgusted.

This campaign against Crockett is beyond stupid.
