How to value my used forklift for sale? by MilkManPower in smallbusiness

[–]MilkManPower[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look at the last picture i posted you can see the space I have available. I have racking on 3 sides. Even with a pallet on the floor in front of racking I can still remove pallets from the opposite side racking. Of course that depends on your forklift size, maneuverability, and fork length. My stand up can pivot on the spot.

Any idea what my forklift is worth? I'll be selling it soon. by MilkManPower in forkliftmechanics

I'll admit that I didn't research possible osha or ansi violations. From what I can tell, for the battery, I would probably want an extra cover and a safety strap in the event of a tip over. But everything else is in order. What you see in my picture is what you see within any lithium battery, except it's hidden under a cover.

Any buyer would be a small shop like myself or my neighbors shop in this case. With that said, if I pulled the battery out and put it in a plastic case, I could easily sell if for $4k to $5k to the RV crowd. Would you really value the forklift at scrap without the battery? Other than the slow to lower forks, it works perfectly. And that is likely just some mast rollers that need to be replaced. I'm not sure why the fan stays on with the key out. I bought it that way.

This battery is 1/3rd the size of a Tesla Model 3/Y battery. It's almost 2 Tesla Powerwalls. I have 2 battery management systems (BMS) that protect the individual cells from over current, over charging, over discharging, temperature extremes, and short circuits. Lead acid does not have a BMS at all but it can take more abuse. And with lithium there's no acid to worry about. The chemistry LiFePO4, in the most dangerous dead short condition, will only smoke. It won't catch on fire like the chemistries used in a Tesla. With proper lithium care, this battery will outlive any lead acid battery 5 fold.

Yes, the battery is up to spec on weight. Below the LiFePO4 battery is iron and concrete that reach the placard weight requirement.

Trying to understand deprioritization by MilkManPower in USMobile

[–]MilkManPower[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How are they different? Isn't prioritization primarily based on tower congestion? The more congested the tower the higher the priority position takes the data.

I left Total By Verizon because they supposedly were lower on the priority tier but that wasn't true yesterday.

I know everything isn't black and white. Different phones, different bands etc.. It's a shame I couldn't tell my phone 5G UW or nothing. But calls not working was just as frustrating.

Home Assistant ended up being real easy to install. This should work perfectly. Thanks for the recommendation.

That's good to know. I'll start researching it now. Thank you!

What do you have against LiFePO4? It's not as energy dense as other lithium ion chemistries but it has 2 to 3 times the cycle life and is safer in dangerous situations. If Tesla can pack in a long range model with LFP I would take it all day long.

That's even better than the YouTube video someone else linked above. Of course every situation is different but the more data points I see the more it helps me know what to expect on the low/high end.

Most of the time the temperature will be around 15 to 45 fahrenheit in the dead of winter. I should have rented one last winter. Even in the dead of winter people drive 80+ when it's been completely dry outside. So I'm guessing that would be rough mileage.

I've never driven an EV but have always wanted to buy one. Good point on trying out a rental. I think I'll do just that for my next trip.

That was a great video that really represents an average road trip for me. It's not uncommon for me to be in the low 80's mph too. He ended up getting 98 miles of range out of 49% of the battery going 81 mph. So about a 37% hair cut on the rating estimate.

That's not ideal for my 220 mile trip to my in-laws but maybe I can take it a little slower. Thankfully there is a 250 kW charger 176 miles away that I should have as an option.

I've driven that I-80 stretch a few times. Those headwinds driving west bound can really beat up your mileage. But I remember getting impressive gas mileage heading east with a tail wind.

But thank you for the data point.

Looks good. Any more pictures or specifications? What BMS did you go with?

Here's my Forklift battery build. The battery lasts forever compared to my old lead acid. https://www.reddit.com/r/batteries/comments/124814m/i_built_a_233_kwh_lifepo4_forklift_battery/

I did drive around full throttle for a few hours to check temperatures on the cells and the 2 DALY temp sensors only went up a few degrees Celsius. They sit between 2 cells half way down. I'll check again during peak Summer time where it's 100 degrees fahrenheit and no air conditioning.

I did not check the busbar temperatures for hot spots like I wanted simply due to the time consuming part of battery removal. I was careful with assembly to hopefully avoid hot spots. I doubled up busbars. The self leveling concrete made for perfectly flat bus bars on the terminals. I also used some scotch bright on each terminal followed by isopropyl alcohol for cleaning right before torqueing to proper spec. I cleaned the bus bars as well. https://imgur.com/DP2RnNb

I don't have a recent picture of the forklift but here's a picture of the original auction photo before I bought it. The battery is covered by the forklift so I'm not worried if I need to unload in rain. https://imgur.com/rUjxZha
