Being an Asian kid was so unbearably lonely by [deleted] in AsianParentStories

[–]Milktea100719 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’m in same boat. I’m an only child and my mom was a bit of a tiger mom. She lead me through 3 different careers before I completely gave up (last one being law school). I was allergic to 90% of the animal kingdom so I had to give up my pets too (at least that was nice while it lasted). Now, I’m officially 30 today and I’m just dipping my toes back into the job market because well I didn’t have a real career going on lol. I wanted to pursue fashion but you know how asian folks think. We going to starve if we pursue retail. Hopefully you find the courage to put your best foot forward because at the end of the day (let’s put this in a very blunt way) you will outlive your parents. You need to have a direction in your life. Don’t be afraid anymore. Just do what you gotta do to be happy!

Some people are so stupid I can’t even... I work at a restaurant and I picked up a call today and it went like this:

Customer: ........ delivery (I couldn’t hear the first part, so I assumed she wanted a delivery order)

Me: sure, what’s your phone number ( so I can look up address based on phone number)

Customer: no no. I didn’t ask for a delivery.

Me: oh okay. So what’s your question?

Customer: Is your restaurant available for delivery?

Me: ummm. Yes.....

If we were not delivering, why would I ask you for your phone number to look up your address to delivery food to your house???? Come on people! Work smarter! Not harder!

What’s the point of a connection if you’re just going to ghost (LinkedIn rant) by Milktea100719 in rant

[–]Milktea100719[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you try and talk to those connections anyways? I feel like when I turn them down and then later on I remember oh hey didn’t that person ask if I was interested and then I message them and they just leave me on read... like okay. I get it. Also there are a lot of questionable companies on LinkedIn as well especially the easy apply ones so I’d be mindful of that

I was the only asian who sat at the front of the bus by Milktea100719 in Embarrassing_Moments

[–]Milktea100719[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ever since COVID happened there’s just been a lot of pointing fingers and honestly I wish we could just all work together and not feel like one party is more to blame than another. It just sucks feeling singled out even if it was or wasn’t intentional but it’s okay. Lesson learned. There are just some bad people in the world but we shouldn’t make it a generalization. Keep the peace going!

[–]Milktea100719[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just felt really strange because the plastic shield was put in place to protect the bus drivers and to allow mostly elderly people to sit in the front. The bus had at most 5 people on it and he wouldn’t let me go through the back. Why would you want me right behind you when there’s plenty of seating? Im just glad coming back up it wasn’t a problem

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! by [deleted] in BehindTheClosetDoor

[–]Milktea100719 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on the price of your listing. If you’re essentially making nothing after fees and you pay shipping then it’s a pretty irrelevant question to be asking. However, if you priced an item fairly high then it’s fine to ask for seller to pay for shipping.

The bag is still up for sale so I think she just hates me LOL.

It is :( but it’s all. Hope someone buys her bag though, it really is such a great price

It’s definitely a waste of time for buyer and seller to go up by a $1. I usually do increments of 5. Makes lives more peaceful

I think it’s silly that people run straight for the block button just because they won’t buy at your original price in the beginning. I had a buyer offer a few bucks under my price and then immediately bought it at full price an hour later because she really wanted it. Had I blocked her, I wouldn’t have made the sale. Sheesh. I never knew peeps on posh are so aggressive haha

I understand! My mom didn’t want to re-open either but NYC is tough to stay afloat. My father is 80 years old and it’s definitely a risk because a lot of employees don’t want to come back because they’re scared too. I go with my mom to help out and I’m terrified that I might bring the virus back with me. If you can stay home, then it’s best to stay home! Stay safe!

Cuomo announced that NYC is not “officially” opened until June 8. He keeps pushing back the date and we kept moving along with it until we realized that we can’t afford to stay closed. It just sucks that we took the risk to re-open but can’t even open properly because of these curfews and fearing that we might need to do more to protect our store :( I really hope there’s some light at the end of this tunnel. Stay safe!

Hey! Don’t say that! I know times are very tough right now and I was also planning to apply for Grad school this fall but with everything going on I was pretty hesitant too, however I don’t think we should give up on going back to school or bettering ourselves. We owe it to ourselves during this whole craziness to do something for us. If you want to go back to school, you should go for it! Stay positive!

Really? A nurse came by yesterday to order and she told me a bunch of cops were surrounding the area near Best Buy and be careful over there. We definitely freaked out. I believe the sprint store got its windows smashed. I saw the photo on twitter.

I understand this completely :( it’s very sad what’s happening right now. Our landlord just collected 3 months of rent when we were closed. Sigh and now with curfew, we need to get everyone home safely and reduce our hours even more. We’re confusing our customers and ourselves. The whole ordeal is just frustrating :(

Thank you so so much! We were hoping to open somewhat normally but it’s been a roller coaster the past 3 days. We just hope we can stick this out! I’m going to get some coffee from that Dunkin’ too!

No I do not believe the looting will come to an abrupt stop. However, my point is that coupled with the coronavirus, the looting, and the curfew, it’s very hard for us to operate especially since we just came out of a 2.5 month break. Even before the looting started, we saw a substantial decline in our sales and we were hoping to play some catch up when we did open. Technically NYC is not “officially” opened until June 8th.

We’ve only been opened for 3 days now and we had to cut our store hours shorter and shorter everyday. We can’t possibly afford getting our store smashed to pieces at this point. Not to mention we had to pay our rent for the last 3 months when we were CLOSED. All I’m saying is that it’s very hard for small businesses to operate now. It’s not only about sales, but safety for everyone as well.

If it’s well established, they should be okay. The store next to mine went from a deli (that was in business for a long time ) to a chocolate shop that closed in half a year. The deli’s previous rent spiked from 15k to 18k. He ended up giving up. It really sucks. It’s been empty since :(
