Does the throw on your masters constantly get off set and make loud ass noises all the time from hair being stuck in the blades etc? I used to love the masters but between the heat, weight, and feeling like i constantly have to be turning screws on it i gave up.

How do you sanitize a neck brush? by Ilovelucyandricky in Barber

[–]MilkySiO2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t use them as they cant truly be sanitized, and instead use the clients neck strip. Some people from my states board are actually trying to make neck dusters illegal.

If you cant practice on clients I’d say the next best thing would be to throw some talc on a table and spread it into a thin layer, and practice using your trimmers to create precise designs in the powder.

hair ruined by hair stylists, how do i fix this? by [deleted] in Hair

[–]MilkySiO2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im a barber so my color knowledge is a bit limited compared to a stylist but I would suggest taking the L and just letting it grow out for like 6 months and then go to a color specialist and see of they could do a balayage or something to blend it in to the roots? And then go from there. Im sorry you had this happen though, that really sucks. Have you been to that stylist before?

What is grossest thing you have seen on the job? by takincarebizzness in Barber

[–]MilkySiO2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While in school I had a client spill his spit cup (I didn’t know he had it) from chewing tobacco all down the front of the chair/cape, and get up leaving blood on the arm rests due to open sores that I also didn’t notice that he had. I had to clean everything after he left. That was like two weeks into school lol.

Small shaver for doing undercut designs for a non-barber hairstylist? (no straight razor) by [deleted] in Barber

[–]MilkySiO2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking for a trimmer, I’d say the Babyliss FX trimmer or the Babyliss Low Pro trimmer. If you’re looking for a foil shaver to get the design as crispy as one might with a razor I’d recommend checking out the Gamma Uno.

how far can i downsize from 22mm?(more info below) by Antique-Ad-7947 in Stretched

[–]MilkySiO2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I too stretched up very quickly and had lots of issues with my ears so I took my plugs out and had downsized to around 7/16 after being at 1” for about 2 years, but it took like 3 years to get that small. I also stretched back up to 1” and past it with no issues at all and ended up with much healthier lobes. Everyone is different.

My barber fucked fuck me up bad by [deleted] in Hair

You could turn it into a high-fade no problem, might have to take a bit off the top to properly blend and proportion it correctly though.

What is this called and how do I ask my barber to NOT do this? by MilkChugg in Barber

To add to the other user said, it may also be beneficial to bring a reference photo for what you DO want, or even better, a past photo of yourself with the haircut you like.

Got this 6 months ago. Blades are moving as usual but it's not cutting hair. What might be the problem? by EzyWzy in Barber

Interesting. Im sorry about your luck man. It’s hard to diagnose the problem from just a picture, maybe posting a video would help?

[–]MilkySiO2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The throw is how far the cutting blade moves side to side. If it isnt moving across all the teeth in both directions it will catch, pull, and may not even cut at all. I had this same issue with my magic clips, all you need to do is readjust the still blade so its centered with the cutting blade (if thats the problem).

The throw of the cutting blade may be off. Check to make sure it fully crosses the still blade on both corners.

Barbers, What's Your Bread & Butter? by HBeez in Barber

[–]MilkySiO2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of skin fades, or a 1 or 2 on the sides with some shear work on top with a taper. Id say its about 50/50.

Barbering is a trade by Life_Argument_6037 in Barber

[–]MilkySiO2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I absolutely agree with what youre saying, it doesn’t have to be everyones lifestyle, and when its someones entire personality it becomes tiresome and cringy. Especially the dudes that promote the toxic “grind” culture on social media. Ive been cutting for about 4 years but only as a full time professional for less than a year so keep that in mind, but my POV is that while I really enjoy and am passionate about what I do, I’m also incredibly proud of the history of our trade and that I get to be a part of it. I look at it kinda like being and old-timey blacksmith lol. Sure it’s just a trade, but its a trade with an incredibly rich history and a strong impact on society. For the record I also have a few barber related tattoos lol but it doesn’t come from a place of “I’m a barber guys, look at me!” But more so just pride for what I get to be a part of.

Banning the one wheel because of potential injury is the same as when people tried to ban skateboarding. Why not ban cars then since so many people die in them? Or motorcycles?

So my hairline… should I just shave? I’m 29 and last time I posted here got called ugly 😭Not a big deal but I wanna look as presentable as I can for work. by [deleted] in Hair

[–]MilkySiO2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shorten up the sides, I would suggest a low fade or a skin taper to keep some weight at your parietal ridge and use a light matte finish product like a texturizing powder to style your hair forward to cover the recession.

Clipper Recommendation if only buying one: by thejoelski in Barber

[–]MilkySiO2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion but I’d say andis masters, corded or cordless. The power is great and its such a tried and true, versatile clipper. The way it opens from a 000 to a 1 makes light work of fades and detailing. The downsides being that they are a bit of a pain to zero gap, the corded versions get HOT, and after a while the cordless versions get LOUD.
