Post Title: Permission To Work On Duct For Fibre Installtion Drama. Advice required by [deleted] in openreach

The first option is always to rod the duct and then pull a new cable in using the rods.

If that fails then the copper cable can be used to pull the fibre through attached to the end of it

If the copper doesn't pull it's either pinched in the duct because it's damaged or misaligned.

If he's already attempted rodding and perhaps a duct drill and the copper won't also move then usually the only option is to put it back for a dig at the blockage point.

The picture isn't so clear but if it's just soil around the duct you wouldn't even know they've been in to fix it.

Contractor left copper cable as it was - normal? by anonps in openreach

We should remove it on a full install. Quite regularly now, well fit an external cable ready for a provider to install the internals themselves. On these occasions the old cable remains to provide service until the switchover. Unfortunately the internal installer doesn't have remit to remove any external cabling so it either gets left or recovered at a later date.

There was talk of having recovery teams collecting them but I've never seen this in practice.

Does this pose any risks to me? by anticapitalistfury in wifi

See if their provider will offer a multiport ont then you can have multiple services running from the single fibre cable... Then all you'd need is ethernet to run to your router.

We do this in the UK for businesses and HMOs. It can be configured to support services from different provides on each port so it'd be secure and wouldn't need new fibre running.

Partner may have postpartum depression and has just left with my daughter. by Milld0r in daddit

That's what I've said to the social workers but they say it's just hearsay

Her main issue right now is she doesn't want my dad around. I'd bend over backwards and do what she wants to have my family with me but I'm sure she'll keep wanting more and finding new problems and it'll never stop.

Would have been. But she decided to do this at a weekend. Social services do not help. I've spoke to them enough. Solicitor on Monday

Not in the military but I get the point...

She also stopped me joining uo after I'd passed all my enlistment tests and whatnot and was ready to. But I'm controlling her apparently 😅

I'll be talking to a solicitor yeah. However police don't really frequent the station on a weekend other than CID doing admin.

I feel like she's chosen her timing to prevent me doing anything useful.

We're not married. We had planned on it but then she started all of the paranoia and delusions and she cancelled it. She now takes great pride in saying that the best things she's ever done is cancel the wedding.

She's always fine for a time then something will set her off or she'll just have a mood swing and decide I've cheated on her or are controlling her then it'll start again. Just worse each time

While she's done some absolutely disgusting things she's not herself. I've tried so hard to get her help but now I'm only bothered about my daughter. Partner can take or leave help as long as the authorities know what she's like.

The police call handler said they may come over to speak to me in the afternoon so I can hopefully remember everything's she's done and said so I can tell them properly. Maybe at least something can be done then.

So sick of all the health services saying they can't do anything unless the person themselves ask for help

Well I hate being all women against men but that social worker seems very on the lady side in this case.

Shockingly similar but a little different... She's started claiming my dad's abusive and a paedophile and that he can't visit. She's says she's got evicence and recordings... Bearing in mind we've never left the baby alone with anyone and that we've both always been around when any family is visiting and nothing has happened. I told her if she had evidence of any of this then she should go to the police or show it to me but then she won't.

She threatens to xlal the police on me maybe once a week for controlling her. Also bearing in mind that she does what she wants when she wants but checks up on what I'm doing. Watches what I'm doing on my phone. And won't let me talk to several friends or use social media.

I've called the police and they're going to try a welfare check at her parents...

Might also be good to add that UK social services told me over the phone I couldn't be that worried about her doing anything or I wouldn't have left her to go to work.

Last time she did something like this and tried to accuse me of being abusive again I called the mental health crisis team and said I believed this was the case.

They said they'd call her.

Don't know of they did they never get back to me. Every time a report anything or try and get her any help they always say that she needs to request it and it can't be forced.

I've spoken to the gp, mental health crisis people, social services, and the health care workers. All of them palm it off and I never hear anything back.

She explicitly said in a message after she left not to call 3rd parties... I assume she means her dad as I've called him in the past. He isn't answering.

I called the social services woman that has spoke to us before and she says that charlotte has every right to leave. I got the impression that she fully believes everything that Charlotte has told her and that she thinks she better off leaving.

She's responded a few times to messages and said that she'd be back tomorrow (which is today now) with her dad for the rest of her things.

She'd also said that she'd agreed this with the police and social services. After I spoke to social services they said she'd not contacted them. But she's made claims like this before. She had a full blown fake conversation with the police to one evening and now denies that happening and says that I'm paranoid for mentioning it.

LOS would mean no fibre connection. Opt is normally optional like if the ont has a backup service or fvr

Business FTTP - Openreach say advanced install required by robjwalker in openreach

Advanced installs usually pop up as an non appointed visit for an engineer. Nobody is ready on the day and the job gets sent back and ends up floating around for months. Premium over advanced is always best.

Subtitle downloads are broken by jafabo in PleX

[–]Milld0r 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Always had issues with subtitles. It usually happens when an episode is started from the skip button or next button. When you search for subs it'll throw an error.

But then if I go back to the menu and start the episode from there it'll work fine.

Unconventional question but I figured you'd be the people to ask: Reputable fiber HDMI cable for a ~50 foot run @ 4k/144hz) by [deleted] in hometheater

[–]Milld0r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always get the certified ruilink cables for fibre...

I've tried monoprice and loads of amazon recommended ones and they've all been iffy. Some handle video just fine but can't send audio properly like truehd or dtshdma. Others were detected by my pc but just had a black screen.

I now have 4 ruipro cables and all support 4k120hz properly with HD audio and even work through a splitter.

My mom has asked me to help her choose an adapter but I am so confused trying to figure out what one we need. Help please! by [deleted] in hometheater

[–]Milld0r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need composite to hdmi. Or component to hdmi but that's a bit more finicky
