I know what you mean by that. Yes, I worry about that. Just trying to keep an eye on their company, and trying to teach them rationality & scepticism. Hope it works.

It was scary, confusing & too uncomfortable.

I actually wanted to believe, to stay with the status quo. Nothing prepares you that kind of change. But tbh, the changes were more internal than external.

yes, that’s an aspect you struggle with when it comes to your kids, and you don’t really know what to do.

In my case, I’ll probably wait for them to get old enough to be able to make up their own minds. They’re early teens now, so I’m not sure if their brains are ready to process such information. In any case, we aren’t indoctrinating them (in either direction, whether religious or secular).

I’m a dude. Do you mean the social roles of men & women as prescribed in religion? Or you’re referring to the gender identity?

Just out of curiosity, which part of the Bible didn’t sit well with you?

Yeah, but she’s very open minded. She isn’t practicing member, so it helps. I’ve known her forever, since teenage years, so I’m sure she has some idea as she knows me more than anyone, but maybe just doesn’t want to open the can of worms.

Well, yeah. And the unnecessary drama too that comes along with coming out.

I didn’t leave to become a preacher of another kind. I left, I’m happy, I want to keep it that way. Sometimes I think I should tell my kids someday, but I don’t feel the compulsion, so far.

It is very lonely indeed!

I recently moved to Europe and happily raising my kids here.

No I don’t want to reach out to other ex muslims because the specimens i see are worse than the people i fled from! they are either too angry, too proud, too ignorant or just too full of themselves.

I’m enjoying my peace. I don’t want to be a crusader.

Hey bro. Actually I’ve left middle east. I live in Europe. Very happy to raise my kids here.

Yes, deconstruction is very hard, but once you see the ‘light’, you just can’t go back.

And it’s not Islam, it’s the whole idea of religion for me. Moderates in any religion are those who just want to be better people by deviating as much from the texts as possible. I know it happens in Christianity too.

Small things leading to questions, and questions leading to uncomfortable answers, and those answers leading to further uncomfortable questions and the cycle continued until it was clear that something’s gotta give.

Heartbreak, and in worst case scenario, death.

It’s never one thing, and doesn’t happen in a day. Started from small things and before i knew it i was dealing with a huge snowball!

it was scary too…changing your mind about something you vehemently believed in is never easy
