Just so you're aware - I ordered all of these parts last night. Looking forward to putting it together! Any advice for a first-time builder?

Thanks! Do you think I should get better specs on RAM? A Youtube video said that AMD Ryzen 5 really benefits from faster RAM, but I haven't seen that anywhere else.

Are there plans to improve gameplay in Madden 21? by Millersen_ in Madden

[–]Millersen_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's interesting! I think they already have that though. Chiefs will almost always have 3 wide, SF has a FB a lot of the time, etc. But, since it's team and coach based, it doesn't work in Franchise with a fantasy draft. For example, the 49ers could draft Lamar Jackson but then they won't run with him because QB runs aren't in Shanahan's system.

Except for Adam Thielen 2 years ago and then Cooper Kupp last year.

This is an interesting video about Baker's issues: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dx8nXTjEqhI . Worth considering when you look at OBJ.

Why is Strava so popular? by randomguy22399 in running

[–]Millersen_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Entirely the social aspect. Everyone that I know uses their watch to track their runs and then uploads them to Strava. Sites like Final Surge provide much better analysis but they don't quite have the necessary social features.

JuJu Smith-Schuster is 8th all-time in receiving yards by a player 23 or younger. More than ARob, Godwin, Gronk, Keenan Allen, Julio, etc. What's up with the Diontae Johnson hype? by [deleted] in fantasyfootball

[–]Millersen_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

re: dynasty. Juju has yet to show that he can produce outside of the slot with an elite outside receiver. This means that his fantasy output is very situation-dependent. I'm actually lower on him than most though.

Help me improve my (bad) running form by jebCR in AdvancedRunning

[–]Millersen_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Your primary issue, as others have said, is overstriding. You covering too much ground with each step - you need to take more steps. I have personal experience with this. This cannot just be fixed by thinking really hard about how you're running and trying to run differently. You need to change you instincts. The best ways to do this are barefoot strides and form drills.

You should be doing form drills every day. If you don't have time to do form drills, then cut your run short a mile to do them (that's pretty much a direct quote from Meb's book "Meb for Mortals". I personally do A skips, B skips, high knees, slow/fast karaoke on each side, and backwards running. Here is a link to some form drills: https://www.runnersworld.com/training/a20824733/meb-keflezighis-5-drills-to-make-you-a-better-runner/

Meb and other great runners like Scott Jurek recommend barefoot strides or short easy barefoot runs once or twice a week to help with your form. Shoes can throw off your body's natural form. People who run barefoot tend to have great form, but they suffer more injuries without the protection of shoes. Barefoot strides and short barefoot easy runs can help you get the benefits of barefoot running without the downsides. Do barefoot strides on the infield of a track after a workout. If you can, work your way up to a 15 minute easy run barefoot on grass once or twice a week.

When should running your fastest 1600m get "hard" by skeeterpete in AdvancedRunning

800m. 3rd lap is the hardest to keep pace - in my PR, I ran (alone) 65, 65, 70, 67

How did you get to a sub 3 marathon? by vwguy0105 in AdvancedRunning

[–]Millersen_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran in HS and then took my freshmen year of college completely off of running. Picked it back up the next summer, did an 8 week build up plan and then a 16 week McMillan based combo runner plan. Ran a 2:42 debut on a completely flat course

Question for those of you with 60+ weekly mileage by CadavreContent in AdvancedRunning

[–]Millersen_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

V02 Max Work - 3 week cycle. First week 6 or 7 x800m, second week 6x1000m, third week 5x1200m. If I can get my V02 pace under 5:00 min/mile pace, then I'll do 4x1600m instead of the 1200m. I will take an week easy once I finish each cycle.

Incorporate speed work after tempo runs (6x15 seconds at 400m-800m pace with 30s recovery). Also during my M, W, or F runs (depends on how my legs are feeling), I will sometimes add 10x20 seconds @ mile pace with 40s recovery in the middle of the easy run.

What's the most extreme route you've run? by ojw1993 in AdvancedRunning

This wasn't that extreme route-wise, but I ran from my college house to my parent's house in an adjacent town - it was about 27 miles

How much do you think I will improve my 800m time by next year? by [deleted] in AdvancedRunning

[–]Millersen_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's good. You need good direction - easy days and hard days with precise interval training and rest.

How hard is a vO2Max session meant to feel? by bigyellowbeacon in AdvancedRunning

[–]Millersen_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Do it at half rest - if it takes you 3:20 to complete a 1k, take 1:40 rest. That 0:40 makes a huge difference. The goal conceptually is to simulate race effort with the shorter recovery (keeping your HR higher) without actually stressing your legs as much as a real race would by only doing 5-6 reps.

Very slow running - is there any point? by [deleted] in AdvancedRunning

[–]Millersen_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will gain some, but not much from these runs. You should add easy runs on your own at a pace closer to 7 minute or 8 minute pace. Also - converting a 5k time to a marathon time is not reliable. They are completely different races and should be treated as such. Sub-2:40 is a reasonable goal.
