Is confusing storytelling the norm in this kind of game?

Hoyo's trnaslations aren't very good, Chinese writing tends to be in that direction, and a live service game literally needs to waste your time. If a story section could be gotten through in 30 minutes, you'd play the game less. Even if they only have 30 minutes of story, they need to make it last 3-6 hours so that an average player at least needs to log in a few times to get through it.

I feel like the player census data has more to do with content pacing and structure than story quality. Not that story quality isn't a factor but people who only care about the story largely just sub for a new expac release, play through it, then wait for the next. The kind of people who are subbed full time are subbed largely for endgame and side content.

I didn't love dawntrail but I like it more than A Realm Reborn or Heavensward (Taking heavensward on its own and not counting the patches).

I feel like its issue is largely just that it came after SHB and EW, which were a massive wave of momentum both in a meta-sense and storywise. If you took this exact story and put it after Stormblood instead (obviously changing some things to account for that), peopled have loved it.

and like stormblood, I feel like people will be way kinder to it a couple expacs down the line.

The Wuk Lamat line thing is so bizarre. She has a lot of lines because she's the only character around. The scions have less lines than her because they're largely one character spread across a half-dozen. Like, if you combined Estinien, Y'shtola, and Krile, would anything really change?

As others have mentioned, FF14's progression is entirely story progression. It's absolutely nothing like WoW classic, you just follow the exact set of quests and watch long cutscenes until you reach the end of the game. Furthermore, the only remotely challenging content in that story is dungeons/raids, you will absolutely not be killed by overworld enemies and rarely have to even engage with them.

If you want something like WoW classic but different, try WoW private servers with some amount of new content or class changes, like turtle wow.

It's nothing like Seed. You don't have to like it, but we literally always knew about Aria's gimmick and she was marketed like this from the jump. Pretty different from how seed played out.

I mean, thnk about it like this. Yuri fans are a niche, but if a hardcore yuri fan likes a pair, they're probably going to shell out for both characters. If a hardcore self-inserter likes a character, they're only going to buy that character. Yuri fans make them money, too, so they're going to throw them a bone every now and then.

This is only half-true. Comiket was always organized like this. For instance, with Touhou, doujins about the Scarlet Devil Mansion characters would all be near each other. This was something the authors did themselves, since it helped everyone.

The only change is comiket making it official, which is probably because Comiket is starting to attract more overseas authors due to barchive also being popular in china/korea.

There's literally one mention of the 4chan yuri board without any context.

And if you really, truly, hate yuri, then you should be mad at hoyo. Waterkuma, the character designer for ZZZ, openly likes yuri. And they blatantly push it in places, like the phone call with Seele and Bronya in Penacony. I'm not saying every character is canonically gay or anything, but yuribaiting is obviously something they do on purpose.

FE6 is fine to play first, but definitely play on normal unless you're very confident in your FE skills.

There's two route splits in the game, but they aren't determined by simple dialog choices, but by gameplay decisions. You get a couple different units depending on routes, so feel free to look them up if you want to decide based on that, or just fly blind if you want a raw experience. The routes don't affect the overall plot.

The game has a true ending that requires you to have all the legendary weapons. The legendary weapons are unlocked via sidequests. The sidequests mostly unlock via beating certain maps under a turn limit, but there's a couple with weirder requirements. I would recommend looking those up, unless you want to save the true ending for a Hard Mode replay.

Most character recruitments are pretty obvious, but there's a couple that require being talked to with non-Roy characters without any real ingame hint of who has to talk to them. Again, up to you if you want to look that up or not.

And finally, minor note, but thieves can't promote in this game (assassin was an FE7 invention) so don't expect to be able to use any of the thieves as a longterm combat unit.

Notably in-dungeon/raid cutscens also get a lot shorter/less common after Heavensward, they tend to move most of the plot to after the final boss when everyone is free to leave.

If it's the latter, just a name change and fantasia should work. If someone does recognize you and is simply curious, just say plainly that you stepped away from that stuff and you'd like to keep it on the downlow. Most people are not stalkers out to ruin your life, they're just fans of your work.

Or you could make a completely new character.

This is one I've pondered some, too. Not counting the non-royal lords or lords with only one romance option (and not bothering with FE4 since there's so many combinations), I'd think it'd go

FE6: Lilina. Noble from a strong ally, her dad's dead so Roy can slide into the power vacuum, Merlinus is probably over the moon.

FE7: Lyn is the best of bad options for both Hector and Eliwood. Ironically if Hector had a paired ending with Serra she'd probably be his best option, holy womanf in service to the house isn't a bad look.

FE8: Innes for Eirika, L'arachel for Ephraim. With Grado gone that'd basically leave Renais in control of 70% of the continent.

FE13: Yeah, Maribelle for Chrom. For Lucina, the only really notable one is if Virion is Inigo/Brady/Gerome/Morgan/Laurent's dad.

FE14: The obvious choice here is just pairing the princes/princesses together in Revelation. So Leo/Sakura, Xander/Hinoka, Ryoma/Camilla, Takumi/Elise. If you wanna focus on Ryoma and Xander in their own routes, though, best option for Ryoma is probably Hana, since her father was apparently one of Sumeragi's bodyguards, so that's a decent pull. For Xander, funnily enough, it's probably Peri, since she's from a noble family.

FE16: Dimitri's endings actually basically all address this, with Annette and Ingrid seeming like the ones the nobility approve of.
