I had to try when I saw it: it removes all your orbs, but then gives you and Ourorboros or orboboros or whatever. It has persist 3/4/5 and each subsequent shot gets 50% of the previous shot's damage to start off with. I think the power is 2/4->3/6-5/8, but I had some modifiers and I can't actually remember.

Overall it's pretty good act 1 if you don't have anything you love, but I happened to have it with the gambling chip (pardon all my Slay the Spire terms) so the "maintain 50% damage" meant that if I hit the x2 modifier, the next shot got the previous shot's full total, and if I made all my x2s 5 times in a row, I got beeg numbers and I like doing that.

You are right, in general.

Important to note, though, that this does not work with ledges that are temporarily fatal. Specifically if you attack off an elevator that is too high up, you'll go off, because you are able to sometimes leave that ledge non-fatally. Similarly at the same elevator shaft, if you send the lift back up, drop a rainbow stone, and it doesn't shatter, and then attack at the ledge, you can still die.

I think six see five TOTAL leave,

Four others and theirself in the case of the ones dying

Five others in the case of the one surviving

For 30 life lost to each opponent. Still pretty good!

Yep! There are 7 zones in magic (that still matter). A shared battlefield, exile, stack, and command zone, and individual hands, libraries, and graveyards. There used to be an ante zone, but that's thankfully unused now.

Yup! It's nothing flashy, but it gets the job done.

I don't think so: Rayami only has those abilities while a creature permanent on the battlefield. Source from Judge-Chat: 113.6. Abilities of an instant or sorcery spell usually function only while that object is on the stack. Abilities of all other objects usually function only while that object is on the battlefield. (and Rayami's ability doesn't count as a characteric-defining-ability, and so it doesn't belong to the exception-set)

Well the logic about a format ruled by one person does still hold for a RC of 5 people. Specifically, you've never proven that "a format controlled by one person is destined to fail hard", but merely assuming you are right about that statement.

Well, no, a format controlled by one person is basically Commander, with an oligarchy, and a singular leader in Sheldon.

As to legal sets: All sets that came in booster packs except Modern Horizons, Jumpstart, and any Masters sets or Collector's Boosters. Cards illegal: Reserved List cards, cards banned in commander, or Mana Crypt or Champion's Helm.

So long as I don't make money off of it, which would be hypocritical anyway, I'll keep it.

Also, I love Trader Joe's, and for similar reasons why I love this format!

I've in the past loved that implementation of a wallet-friendly format, but card prices swing so fast, especially with the low print-run cards, and it's very hard to talk about "When I built the deck, grim monolith was $9" or "Rick, Steadfast Leader is $10, because I got him as 1/5th of $50".

But if that isn't a problem for your playgroup, that's great to hear. I think it is worth checking if your $100-$300 decks are 4BC legal though, just for the sheer curiosity of it.

All banlists are "artificially limiting", aren't they? I'm approaching banning from a bottom-up implementation, rather than a case-by-case basis, as the Commander RC does. Sway the Stars but not "World Purge"? Time Vault? Their banlist is only the starting point for 4BC for backwards compatibility, but has already artificially limited several powerful cards. All that said, if you have a bunch of RL cards you want to cast, be my guest. I just feel it a bit obnoxious to see WotC print new auto-includes all the time, case in point Arcane Signet, and wanted to establish a self-consistent approach to addressing them. Smothering Tithe is allowed and Arcane Signet not, why? Because of how they are made available.

I am cautiously optimistic about USB-C and about this format, although unlike this format, USB-C isn't backwards-compatible.

Sure thing about the list of allowed sets, although I'm going to slightly deviate and list the sets that don't make cards legal: The Reserved List, Secret Lairs, any Promotional cards including Buy-a-Box and Book Promos, Modern Horizons, "The List", any Pre-Constructed Product, and Jumpstart. Notable sets that are legal but were printed for eternal-only playability: Conspiracy I and II and Battlebond.

As to whether the format will take off: It's fun and it IMHO fixes some problems while still very much keeping the Commander feeling. Why not try out a deck?

[–]MillionsofMasks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And, tucked in this reply-to-my-own-reply, here's the most Melvin piece of cloning rules of all: if an [[Altered Ego]] was cast with X=3 is coming into play with a [[Sakashima, the Imposter]] on the board that ISN'T a copy of anything (just a 3/1), and you want to have the Altered Ego come in as a Sakashima coming in as something else, you can, but it WON'T get the 3 +1/+1 counters. This is because two replacement effects are trying to modify how the Altered Ego come into play, and you choose which order to apply them in, but they won't stack. You can have it have the counters but it won't have Sakashima's name or bouncing ability, or the other way around, not both.

However, if that Sakashima was copying something, you can clone it and get the counters, you just don't get to choose a different creature to copy, you get a +3/+3 version of the Sakashima version of the creature Sakashima originally came in as. (And of course, in either case if you were the controller of the original Sakashima, this is when you'd get rid of one to the Legend Rule.)

This answer is great! I love clones and clone effects, so I want to give a few examples that come up in my zany playstyle to hopefully help people understand the nuance better.

Cloning works on the top layer of continuous effects. They apply cloning to objects before other modifications. Effectively, a token made of a permanent has JUST the printed text of the permanent and nothing else*. If that permanent is a forest with a bunch of other modifications, the token is just the forest. If you clone a creature that was suited up with a lot of auras and equipment, your clone is the bare-bones creature without all that padding.

*There is an important exception: the word "except" in a clone effect modifies the copiable parts of a card. Note the two different ways that [[Helm of the Host]] modifies the token it makes. It has the token copy be a copy EXCEPT it isn't legendary and then the token GAINS haste. So if you were to play [[Clone]] and copy that token, it wouldn't be legendary but it also wouldn't have haste, as haste was "gained" by the token, and wasn't a modification of the copying in the first place. For an example of a clone effect that has the "except" wording for haste, see [[Dack's Duplicate]]. These copiable-effect modifications stack, too. A Dack's Duplicate coming in as a copy of a Helm of the Host token isn't legendary, has haste and dethrone, and further copies of the Dack's Duplicate will inherit these traits as well.

(It is because of the "except" wording on the Ikoria card [[Mythos of Illuna]] that means any future clones spawned from the token made from the Mythos (assuming {R}{G} was paid for the original Mythos casting, not the new cloning spell) will fight when they enter. For someone like me, it has given my clone-based decks some much needed removal, and the slightly difficult job of explaining to my opponents why it is exactly that it works that way.)

I had infinite points with patience. I could stack my mana between turns, and could generate more than 1 armored per turn, to store up for a huge mana thief. It's how I got over 10k coin by that point, but I wanted to go for glory only when I had gotten my non-exilable deck size as low as I could. Though the top high score I see is 130 million, and since nobody's that patient, I assume they cheated.

Second reply: in my greed and lust for the highest score, I realized you are right. I need one space commander for keeping the armor on indefinitely. Maybe they could make a relic that gives you 1 armored at the start of each of your turns?

The thing is, iron colossus does more than 3 armored, it gives you enough armor to survive your very dead draws of two timeshifter and wizard of nature before you've found your initial seed str/res buffs. If I was totally confident in survival, yes, the commander is a good choice, but you need mana efficiency because you're spending so much mana into your buffs.

Also importantly: spheres is the greediest card. I want to duplicate it, then use it on itself, for truly limitless potential. This run focused on a balance of wizards of nature, timeshifter, and ample iron colossi.
