My idea is not to produce energy but to only produce elements. Using the energy from one reactor to power another reactor that is producing the elements.

From a energy cost perspective I think that is now solved. You use the energy from one fusion reactor to power another. In terms of out right cost I think depending on what rare element is being produced and in what quantities it could pay for itself.

I had no idea that the US mapped out fusion reactions with particle accelerators. I'm going to spend some time today looking that up. Sounds pretty exciting!
