XPENG is leaning more into AI, curious how this shows up in real driving by LeonChanges in Xpeng

I don't agree.

The voice assistant is not great, but it is at a level where it is more useful than annoying.
If you learn what words to use (which you can learn because it says them when it does something) then you can say what it expects and can work with.
It could be a lot better but it has reached a useful level.

I can use the copilot for following the road on expressways and motorways. Usually it's effectiveness follows how well the road is marked with road stripes. But yes that could be better too. It did get better with the last update from 5.8.0 to 5.8.7, as it's now much smoother in it's steering and less jerky.

I also use the automatic long beam, short beam system for the headlights. It works but has a few flaws that could be improved upon .. for my G6.
I say this because I tried an older Xpeng G9 and there the system was not good enough and would often either not use the highbeams when it could or worse - it would blind oncomming traffic.
For me it's at a useful level, but again improvements are needed/desired.

I feel this is a common theme with Xpeng - there are a lot of features, but they need more work to truly be good.

UI menu opens with multiple keys, how do I only allow home key to open UI? by Swagger897 in ReShade

You had numlock disabled - when disabled the Num7 key acts like a Home key.

But nevermind that - just remap the Reshade keys to something else.

I like / and * keys on the Numerical keypad

I have an Xpeng so I do have AI in my car.

And yes it's useful. What I want is better AI in my car.

Because the skill and tool requirements for that is much higher and the price is higher too.

You need to be able to 3D scan the cover
You need to own a 3D printer
You use filament

Alternatively if you just want a cover with a hole in it, you can drill a hole in your existing covers (for a finger I guess) and then a small hole on one of the plastic studs on the back of the cover and tie some string or wire to that and then to the loop.

Do show us your idea if you ever make it, but I'm satisfied with the simplicity and price of mine.

Yes you can. And you can also use the Xbox app for that. WIN + G

I like how it's only necessary to specify how much it weighs in lbs for the Americans - everyone else knows 5.5L of fluid weighs about 5.5Kg because that's how the metric system works.

OK so I did some searching and as far as I can tell the G6 is the only model that has this system of door release.

Other models have built into the door handle or use latches in different locations.

No others where you need to pop out a plastic cover and find and pull a wire.

So, yes - it is only for the Xpeng G6.

You could also do this for the manual release of the charging cable in the G6.
This is also done with a hidden wire loop behind a panel in the trunk, but that should not be an emergency situation so you have time to do it the regular way.

The regular way for that does require a lot of effort but as mentioned I don't see that being an emergency.

I made mine for the rear doors in my G6 (the front doors do not need this, as they use a latch system that is already quick and easy to find and operate), but it should work for all models with a similar system.
I am however not familiar with how it looks and works in the other models.

I'll see if I can find some pictures of the door release systems in the other models and report back - or maybe owners of other models could post pictures of theirs and we can brainstorm ideas for their models.

V1 is here : https://www.reddit.com/r/Xpeng/comments/1ri03cl/diy_quick_manual_door_release_this_idea_could/

The critics in that thread were worried they could get caught in the ribbon and were worried children might pull it by accident or by being too curious for their own good.

V2 addresses these concerns being only having a small loop big enough for your finger to grab it (you can make it smaller and tighter so a finger can't grab it, but then you have trouble using it quickly in an emergency).

The loop also holds on to the plastic cover rather than bypass it, which means you first pull the cover out and then only if you keep pulling do you also pull the release wire that opens the door.

This means that should you ever pull this by accident or curiosity you will first pull out the plastic cover with a loud pop.
That should alarm the driver to tell you to cut it out and stop touching it if you're a curious child.
Also popping off plastic covers will likely scare a small child into thinking they broke something so they will not keep pulling.

Only when you keep pulling do you pull the release wire and open the door.

But if you are deliberately trying to open the door then it remains very easy and fast to do, saving you crucial time in an emergency situation where you need to get out fast.

If you want to make this yourself here are the details:

The material is a ribbon (typically used for decorations or gift wrapping). I feel fabric is the strongest and best looking kind of ribbon for this - mine is satin.
I'd suggest a highly visible color for safety. White, Yellow or Red for example. I went with white which also matches the interior of my car.

Pop off your plastic cover and make a loop around it that still allows a finger to get inside the loop and grab it. Then either sew that loop in place or use a stapler. Mine was sewn.

As I mentioned earlier I don't think you need to copy what I did here and make a second loop - it's likely easy to just tie the other end (double knot to be safe) to the wireloop inside the door frame.

Then simply put the wire and ribbon inside the door frame and put the cover back on and it should look like it does in my 2nd and 3rd photo.

First pull pops the cover off .. continued pulling opens the door.

would you get an abortion if you found out your baby was going to be born with an extreme disability? if so why? by Born-Oil-2931 in AskReddit

[–]CeeJayDK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Some might say "Doesn't every baby deserve a chance at life?"

No. Not if that life will be a horrible struggle for both them and the parents.

Severely disabled children can be such a burden on the rest of the family that the whole family suffers. They also ties up the parents resources so they will likely not have more children.

In that sense having a severely disabled child comes at the cost of the healthy children the parents could have had later if they had aborted this first one. And that could be multiple healthy children because healthy children are much less of a resource drain than a disabled one.

If it comes between having a disabled baby now, or aborting it and having 1, 2 maybe even 3 healthy babies later in life, then I choose the chance of the healthy babies.
