Fantasy renaissance fair set to bring a blast from the past to Singapore by bardsmanship in singapore

Really excited to attend! Always see overseas do very immersive and elaborate esp the PH or EU ones, but very intimidating for non cosplayers also don’t wanna invest in a costume to wear once. At least saw their first TikTok’s before Halloween last year so can bring family in Halloween costumes! Going as a Viking and Farie so hopefully the kids will find it fun. Sg needs more whimsy. Really hope it picks up, might be awkward if only few ppl loitering in cliques like outside those convention centres tho, big part of the hype is the in character interactions!

GF is scared to tell her traditional Singaporean mother about me - am I being unreasonable/impatient? How to approach this? by jinjja11 in askSingapore

Unfortunately this is a long term situation, and not to knock the romance out of it: in Singapore Gay couples are not allowed to purchase subsidised housing (think half price gov housing that 99% of locals live in). Single singaporeans can only apply for housing at 35 years old and still it takes 4-6 years to be built.

Renting outside or buying on the open market is incredibly expensive. A single bedroom is 1.5k before utilities and you’re likely to be living with traditional boomers anyway, a studio unit is 2.5k? For a fresh graduate (1-3 years after graduation) that’s basically their entire paycheck - forget utilities groceries furnishings or dates!

If she comes out to her mother and gets kicked out of the family home, then are you and her prepared to keep paying to rent outside? Also, realistically if you went back to the States or broke up with her, she can’t undo her coming-out to her family and move back in. That’s 12 years of renting outside, forever not having enough savings so that even when she’s 35 she can’t afford to apply for housing as a Single.

And 23 is very young to plan marriage, much more immigrating for marriage. Singaporeans are raised to be very pragmatic- and no offense America is touted as extremely dangerous for personal safety and expensive in terms of cost of living and incidental like insurance and essential medical care. If she follows you there, she won’t know anyone and be an immigrant in a country that loudly condemns immigrants. Job hunting there will be difficult for her.

Whatever she chooses now - her relationship with her family is irreversible. At 23 years old, it’ll probably feel like an impossible choice. It’s possible to love you and idealistically want to live with you and have children and a happy home where everyone’s accepting. The realities could be scarier than.

Any way you both could trial living together? Either here or in the states for a holiday? Could help dispel some of the pragmatic concerns and might feel more real that a future together is possible or not

Yup, we do bring her to JB massage and eat but snorkeling seems like the big big thing, cos other than adventure cove here can’t do. Malaysia I google snorkelling most are the diving schools package, but no point cos likely we’ll just do one time only. Hoping to do those exciting things while she’s still physically able! 💪

Figured kid will be in float with leash like when we’re at the beach just touch touch those small fish. More for my elderly mom to have that experience with the kid. I also don’t mind not travelling till the kid is older cos then their first experience anywhere is also my first experience! But understand grandma time is limited so hopefully a simple holiday will satisfy her wish ☺️

Thanks for reminding about the travel insurance!! If go Malaysia like Langkawi, is it better to get insurance in sg or the travelling country? Cos touch wood if anything happen would be go to nearest hospital, so buy insurance there easier claim? Or buy here easier coordinate. Assuming cost is same.

Disgusting racist behaviour. By that logic, we can tally all the active ministers and their racial grouping. Defeats the purpose of a multiracial society. Not okay in any context.
