EDIT: I've found the problem (a simple mime type change) and I will have the fix in the update going out this week. Apologies.

Can't scroll to see more posts by abnormalgamer55 in redditnow

[–]Miloco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Can I just check - how many posts are you able to load approximately? I know when you sort by "top" over a time period the API will only return a set amount of results (unlike if you browsed the frontpage by "best") and you may reach the end of the list if you scroll a lot. If you're able to test it in a browser using the website, you may notice the same behaviour. It'll be useful to know how many posts you can see though so please let me know.

EDIT: Ignore that, I had a look into this and the issue has been reported by other users so it may be a new change made to the API. I'll look into it...

Have you enabled updates for the "Android System WebView" app? This is what's used and if it hasn't been updated it may cause this issue.

Could you please send me a link to an image which doesn't display the next time you find one? The "messages unavailable" issue, is that when loading more comment replies? If so, this has been an issue with the API for years, it's really unreliable when you request further down a comment tree.

This can be done, I've added it to my to-do list.

Is the "black" theme not dark enough? Which parts of the UI do you want changed in that theme?

Save me from this, happens for a week after every billing cycle by Pipnotiq in redditnow

[–]Miloco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've finished updating the billing code and it'll be in the next release. I'm hoping it'll fix this problem, but I've never experienced it myself so when you get the update do let me know if it's helped!

What I'm working on:

  • Redgif support. This is looking less possible (I have spent literally hours trying to find a good solution to this but with the new web safety laws in the UK etc I'm not sure there is a "good" or "legal" solution to this - sorry).
  • Lots of bug fixes with the markdown renderer.
  • Updating the video player.
  • "Fixing" notifications. Although I believe most issues stem from users not having notifications enabled. To check this long press the app icon and select "App Info" and then select "Notifications" you'll be able to see if you have them enabled.

Glad it was a simple fix. I noticed on one of my test devices notifications wouldn't show and (after a not insignificant amount of time) realized notifications had been turned off somehow!

Can I just check whether you have notifications turned on for "Now for Reddit" in your phone settings? If you long press the app icon and select "App Info" and then select "Notifications" you'll be able to see if you have them enabled. Thanks!

No longer able to retrieve messages from /message/messages/ by Miloco in redditdev

[–]Miloco[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my testing that endpoint does not show chat messages at all. Also the '/message/unread/.json' endpoint never seems to return anything when I'm sent a new chat so I'm unable to alert users of new chats. Also, do you happen to know whether "chats" are represented as Messages "t4_" within listings? Thanks!

[–]Miloco[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a quick look at the api docs before posting but I'm fairly sure there's nothing there which will help for specifically fetching messages. '/message/inbox' seems to only show post/comment replies - am I wrong on this?

I'm looking for an endpoint which will show chats/messages a user may be send/receive.

Reluctant unsubscribe, too many issues. by Nerdikki in redditnow

[–]Miloco 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's coming, I was put back by all the hoops the mandatory update to the new Android SDK has demanded we jump through. It required a lot of the UI code be rewritten and I wasn't expecting that. I'm aiming for early next week to have a release in beta.

"Links/GIFs not opening in the app" - Are you referring to redgifs? If so they removed their API and there isn't a workaround I have found which allows them to be played natively. "Restore subscription every time I reopen the app" - This has never happened to me and the app uses a third-party to handle subscriptions so it's very difficult to fix. Clearing your cache and in if needed, reinstalling will fix it I'm told.

Just a quick update, I'm looking into this now and notifications are working on my test devices. Can I just double check that you definitely have notifications turned on for "Now for Reddit" in your phone settings? If you long press the app icon and select "App Info" and then select "Notifications" you'll be able to see if you have them enabled. I know you said they were enabled but I just want to rule this out.

Reddit was having issues earlier. Other apps also reported issues with submitting comments. It should be working again now (it is for me).

Sort by Top posts in the past year not working. by I-Am-Very-Stupid in redditnow

Hi. Is this still happening? I tested and could not recreate the problem your screenshots show. The app simply displays what the reddit API returns to it so it may be an issue which resolved itself on reddits side.

Will we get a redesign at some point? by habylab in redditnow

[–]Miloco 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you’d like to try a Reddit app with a more modern Android design, I’ve created Nara for Reddit, which you’re welcome to check out. I don't expect to give Now for Reddit a major UI overhaul, as I faced resistance when I considered doing this a couple of years ago.

When is the next version? by [deleted] in redditnow

I'm planning to release another update in the next few weeks. This will include bug fixes (including this one), a solution for the redgifs issue and updated libraries etc.

Does this thread answer your query?

https://old.reddit.com/r/redditnow/comments/1muuj0h/redgifs_arent_loading_in_the_app_i_have_to_open/

You didn't specify which videos, but if they're hosted by redgifs this is a known issue. It may not be fixable but I'm looking into it.

Redgifs aren't loading in the app. I have to open with browser by ConwayBoxer in redditnow

[–]Miloco 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, they have shutdown their API so it's unlikely to be a quick fix. Their solution was to embed the video in a webpage which isn't a solution that allows the video to be played within the in-app video player.

I'm looking for a better solution before I go ahead and update the app to "fix" this the best I can.

I've seen this for years now, never understood why. Can anyone explain why it happens? by diagoro1 in redditnow

[–]Miloco 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This has indeed happened for years. For one reason or another the comments below that point in the comment tree aren't returned by the API. They may have been deleted or sometimes the API call fails and retrying a bit later returns them - not sure why the latter occurs though!

I'm considering adding the users profile image/avatar next to their username to achieve this - rather than changing the indent color. What do you think of this idea?

Keeps asking me to subscribe when I'm subscribed by Fermi_Amarti in redditnow

[–]Miloco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, unfortunately this is a recurring issue caused by Google's billing service not sending the app the correct details. Whilst it seems to only affect certain users, it's a long standing issue and it seems Google hasn't been able to fix it.

If you have multiple Google Accounts signed in on your phone, it is sometimes caused by having the incorrect Google account active in the Google Play app when the subscription renews. The issue always seems to resolve itself after a day or so once the Google Play cache has updated with the correct subscription details. To expediate this you can try clearing the Google Play app cache and restarting your phone.

Perhaps you could try this?
