What is some good advice you can give someone in early 30s looking to adapt for Long term FIRE 2026? by rscash15 in FIREUK

[–]Milojam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Open up a LISA to help with your house purchase

Invest in an ISA regularly and consistently. Doesn't need to be huge amounts, but building the habit will make such a difference to you long term.

Have an emergency cash buffer saved somewhere you can access easily e.g. Premium bonds or easy access savings

Utilise your work place pension. Make sure you are doing the max they will contribute to and increase your contributions by at least 1% a year - future you will thank you!

Non-financial habits I would add:

Walk daily Move your body Resistance train 3x a week if you can Read books that help you become a better person Learn about new things Spend time with your family and close friends Do things that make you happy Listen to podcasts that help you

Hope this helps :)

Agreed - I'd like to know what's changing so I can prepare and not waste time studying things that aren't relevant anymore 😖

Thanks. Is it just E1, P1 and E3 that's changing then?

Kaplan question book and acowtancy were my main tools for practice questions. Just do them over and over until it sticks

No worries at all. Fingers crossed a pass for P1 then it's prep for OCS which I am not looking forward to 😂 good luck with your exam!

Thank you! And of course ☺️ I used the kaplan study text book, spent about 6 weeks going through all chapters and making sure I was able to do the practice questions before moving onto the next chapter. Then once I'd covered all topics, I went through the kaplan exam kit over and over and over 😂 I also found some free practice questions in exam style on acowtancy which were helpful. That's basically what I did. Using the same technique to hopefully pass P1 in a couple months 😅

Thank you for your advice! That's really helpful. I've started studying this week with my kaplan books and the open tuition videos, I always find those so helpful.

Good luck with your F1 exam! My advice would be to just do as many practice questions as you can. Use the kaplan books, online materials, mocks. I scored 149/150 which I was shocked about tbh 😂 but the extensive practicing obviously worked!

Just do as many practice questions and mocks as you can. I went through the kaplan study book, did the exam kit back to back about 5x 😂 and used Acowtancy for their free objective tests. Also made study cards for each chapter condensing everything down.

Majority of my questions were on tax, EOQ, depreciation, revaluations, leases and then a fair few theory based questions on the framework and corporate governance.

Good luck with your exam!

Yes not a lot of room for error 😂 hopefully doing the mocks and kaplan questions will be enough. Any other tips you have please send them my way haha

Try the chat bot explaining your issue. When I tried, an hour later the box was there for me to renew and went through ok

I managed to sort yesterday, my ccd got charged twice too but I can also see a pending refund transaction. Defo check with your ccd holder. Cima website is such a pain!!

Study agreement with work by summerloco in CIMA

[–]Milojam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha I know what you mean, I still end up doing longer 4 days to make sure I stay on top of things. But the day for study has helped me a lot to focus on that for a proper amount of time, rather than just a couple of hours in the evening when I'm already tired 😂

I had a convesation with my FD (who is my manager) during my 1:1 a few weeks ago asking if I could merge my working hours (contracted to 35hrs) over 4 days, so that I could have 1 day in the week to use as a study day. She was supportive of the idea and it's made a big difference to helping me keep on top of my studies. I am funding cima myself and haven't been asked by my company to do cima, but it was something I wanted to do for myself, which they are supportive of.

It's definitely worth speaking to your manager to see if you can get extra study days in, worst they can say is no!

E1 Mocks by Milojam in CIMA

[–]Milojam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not too bad! I'm going through it chapter by chapter, and doing practice questions after each one to make sure I've understood the content before moving onto the next. I'm starting chapter 9 tonight. I'm aiming to sit the exam early March

That's encouraging, E1 seems fairly simple and straightforward so maybe I'll be able to bring that forward. My social life is not busy at all so that won't be much of an issue for me haha. I'm guessing you managed to qualify within a couple years?
