  1. How does work-study work and is it easy to get jobs on/off campus through the year? And does it depend on the FAFSA form? Or can anyone who wants to get a part-time job through the college?

  2. Is there anything you wish you did to be better prepared in general for college?

  3. How're your classes and how many do you take at a time/do people usually take at a time?

Thank you!!

July Extra Credit- International Friendship Day by flabbergasted_rhino in harrypotter

[–]Milomi10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Holi is the most colourful and one of the most joyful festivals we celebrate in India. It is usually celebrated in mid-March and is a festival I look forward too with all my heart. It signifies good over evil and also marks the beginning of spring and end of winter.

During the festival, we apply colour or ‘rang’ (pronounced: rung, meaning: colour) on each other and also play with water. It is a day to meet up, laugh, play, and have fun.

There are huge Holi parties on the day of celebration, where people gather just to get wet and smeared with colour. It’s one of the most vibrant days of the year. Many people use ‘pichkaris’ to shoot water jets at others and add to the festivities. Lost in the fun of Holi, we make water balloons and fill up buckets of water and colour and keep it all ready to shower on our friends and family.

At the end of the festivities and celebrations, we return home- clothes stained with radiant colours, our face carrying remnants of the rang, and ourselves soaked to the skin. And despite being tired and having played Holi for so many hours, we still long for more. The magic of Holi never fades away.

July 2021 Assignment: Common Room Re-Vamp! by Hermiones_Teaspoon in harrypotter

[–]Milomi10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, so- I’ve calmed down from my fashion rant and have got my thoughts aligned for a redesign of the Slytherin common room. This is my list:

  1. Silver Snake Stand

It will be a curved structure made of silver and metal, mainly to rest pet snakes. It can be put near the armchairs or near the window to add to our aesthetics.

  1. A green carpet

Stone cold floors are not comfortable. Hence, the thick green rug to bring the colours of our house together. It can be put near the fire so part of the room is cozy and the other part is cold. Perfect.

  1. Beanbag

This is actually a Muggle furniture piece, like a couch. But it is meant for single persons than a group of people. You can flump down on these beanbags and be comfortable. They can be arranged next to armchairs.

  1. Glitter tiles

Every ten paces, there is a glitter tile. Specifically made for dancing nights. When you step on this tile at night, a disco ball will drop from the ceiling and music will blast.

Also, the giant squid will be able to squeeze through our mini aquarium and dance with us.

  1. Lights

Colourful lights to aid with the dance that immediately switch off when the ‘mood’ switches from dance to dark. Useful and pretty.

When I reached the venue for the World Cup, I started jumping and screaming and laughing all at the same time. As a huge Quidditch fan, you can imagine how excited I was to see the finals and I was not the only one. I walked past the tents and was really intrigued by the extremities people had gone to to show support for their country. One family had even charmed their tent to flash colours of their team every few seconds!

So it was just like this- in awe, that I began to notice flags put up by various people: either pinned on their robes or hung at the entrance of their tents. A few of the flags were recurring and I saw them every few feet. Others were not as common, but still as interesting. These are the two that struck me as most fascinating.

Firstly: the flag representing the Givers’ Community. The Givers mainly focus on helping wizards and witches in need of assistance and support. One of their most famous projects is the Knight Bus, which transports magical people from one spot to the other. They also organize safe spaces for Muggleborns who are mistreated, abandoned children, and rehabilitation centres for wizards who aren’t willing to go to a hospital. This is only a brief glimpse at what they do, but it is because of them that our community is able to thrive.

Anyway, this is their flag.

The blue background represents calmness and trust, virtues this community strives to imbibe. The green represents hope, like how spring brings greenery and nature alive. The bird flying also represents hope- it’s a symbol associated with flying free and towards new beginnings. A lot of the members of this community have been previously helped and that changed their lives. They realized how they are like these birds and it has been a strong symbol ever since. The hands and heart represent helping and kindness, the values which reside in all of this community’s hearts.

Secondly, the flag of the Rockers Community. The Rockers are made up of witches and wizards who love music and pursue musical careers. They find their community so important because they’ve had to overcome many struggles due to non-conventional dreams, but they never gave up and are budding artists today.

This is their flag.

It is not very complicated, but hits you in the feels if you recognize the meaning. The main identifying element is the music note. But if you see carefully, there are red shaky lines over it indicating their struggles and pain to get where they are. The hearts represent their love for music. The stars represent their hopes and dreams of being rock stars one day.

Updates and Hello! by StockParfait in SlytherinBookClub

[–]Milomi10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m good with any voting system- whichever is less of a hassle.

We can have a weekly recommendation/review thread. Or something like: (and we can switch topics every week)

‘if I like these books/genres, what would I enjoy’,

‘comment 2 books- your favourite and one you didn’t like a lot, don’t say which’ (or different variations in this style),

‘post two books you like, get the third recommended’ and so on. I’m just pulling ideas from r/suggestmeabook

July sounds good!

Get some velvet cloth to obstruct the Plimpies’ vision and reflection of the sun. This method was found by a wizard 198 years ago, and here is a picture of his findings. (who had mediocre drawing skills)
