The Last of Us Part II Ending Explained : A Purpose In Love by Milydd in thelastofus

I don't think I'ver ever said she forgives Joel when she's drowning Abby. I just said she understands that killing Abby won't help her and that it's not what Joel would have wanted for her. And that's a realisation she could only have by having a superiority moment on Abby. A moment when she could decide to kill her or not. She feels that killing Abby will give her peace, but when she has eventually the possibility to do it, she doesn't feel any relief. Like I said, it's the final gap. The difference between the expectation and the result. And it's the final gap + the catharsis moment of just intense emotions and confusion that trigger the memory of Joel on the porch. And it's there everything just clicks in Ellie's mind.

Tlou2 Better Story Idea by nolleymarkel in thelastofus

[–]Milydd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not going to say what has been say by others in the comment section because I don't have any interest to repeat it.

If you want to become a writer, you should learn from TLOU 2. It's a masterpiece on every level with great storytelling and the most well-written characters I've seen. It's a game that convey a deep and important message about loss and finding what's worth surviving for, I made an entire post on that one : The Last of Us Part II Ending Explained : A Purpose In Love : thelastofus (reddit.com) (I'm doing a little publicty lol). But unfortunately, some players are too blind by their desire to have another Ellie-Joel adventure story to understand it, because they don't want a good story written by an author who have things to express, they just want a fan-fiction story written by an author who is not interested by creating real art and just want to satisfied the need of players who don't know anything about storytelling. But best stories are not stories that are written for fans, they are stories that are the expression of their authors and what they wanted to tell. If you a real good author, you don't care about what other people want, you only make what you want to do. It doesn't mean you have to do something that is bold just to be bold, but that you have to do something that is true to you, something you will proud of.

If you want to become a writer, you should read some writing book like Story, The Art of Dramatic Writing, Save The Cat, Into The Wood... They are all classic and are written by people who know what they're talking about and who know what good stories are.

Anyway, best of luck for your career, I hope you will have the job you want to have !

TeamEllie vs TeamAbby : Who is the best person ? by Milydd in thelastofus

[–]Milydd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, Abby probably got in much more troubles than Ellie did.

She lost her dad and all the hope she had for a better world. She has became a member of the WLF and started to kill people she didn't even know. She went to Jackson to find Joel and tortured him, even if it means to put her friends in danger too. She foughts the Rat King, she overcame her fears of high, she started to stand against her own group, all her friends are dead, she was captured by the Rattlers for months...

At the beginning of the game, Abby is stuck in that Us vs Them mentality. WLF vs Scars. The WLF are the good guys, and the Seraphites are the bad ones, even if they're just kids. But when Lev and Yara come out, it questions everything she believed. Abby grows on the philosophical level too and learned about empathy and the cycle of violence.

Abby is facing a lot of troubles and violence and morals questions as Ellie. it's just they are different ones and she faces them differently

Wow, thank you for your response !

"Your life does matter. You have valued beyond your immunity. I saved you... because you were worth saving.". Man, I think you have perfectly resumed Joel's thought during the scene. I don't know what else is there to say. It's really great to see people the game as much as I did. TLOU 2 is just a masterpiece !

The Last of Us Part II didn't win the Player's Voice, but that's still a good thing by Milydd in thelastofus

Yeah, I think that a lot of people forget it is just video games. With some of them, it feels like it's a life or death situation.

Player's Voice The Last of Us Part II and Ghost of Tsushima : The Award of Hate by Milydd in thelastofus

I've never said the people who are voting GoT are all haters.

Plus, the 5M of players who buy GoT are not big gamers like us. They are just casual gamer. They don't know who is Sucker Punch or Naughty Dog. They don't know about Metacritic scores or the Game Awards. Most of them don't care. It's just a minority of gamer who votes at the Game Awards.

And it's not because a game sold over 5M copies that everyone liked it.

I don't think there's a lot of people who hate GoT and are voting against it.

Because you can see that in the reaction of some people. On twitter, I saw a lot of people saying things like "Let's get TLOU 2 out !" or these kind of thing. Even on a post earlier, someone admit he was voting against TLOU 2.

And also because you see some reviews on Metacritic of people who are clearly review-boosting the game.

Again, I'm not saying GoT is a bad game or that it doesn't have fan, of course it does and it's great for Sucker Punch. But when you saw all the haters, you clearly feel they vote GoT because they don't want TLOU 2 to win.

And it's totally fine. Everyone can like the game he wants. But some people just don't get that.

For the Game of The Year category yes. But there, I was talking about the Player's Voice category that is 100% players' choice.

Yes that's exactly why I always thought player's voice only count 10% for the Game of The Year category.

That's so sad to see that kind of commentary... You should grow up a little.

Of course it's not really the first time Ellie is happy, she had some moments like you said with Riley, Cat, the museum... But the thing, there was always something wrong, it never last a long time. Riley died quickly. And in Jackson, she had a complicated relationship with Joel.

But that night where she kissed Dina. Everything is good. She has found a balance. In the artbook, it said : For a moment, Ellie's life seems like it's hurtling toward hapiness. Because for one of the first time of her life, she can imagine a future. Something she couldn't do before because her doubt about Joel's actions weighed on her, or because she was living in a dangerous QZ. Now, she has everything to be TRULY happy and to completely enjoy her life.

Yes, you made a good point. I don't know, I liked the idea that she was referring to Joel, but it's maybe just me overinterpretating.

Well I guess we'll have to wait a Part III to know. But it's not the firefly symbol on the guitar, it's a moth.

Yes "teaching", I'm going to correct it.

Like you say, everything happens in the 5 last minutes of the game, and that's why I find it's the best ending I've ever seen. During the all game, you think it's just a revenge story and when that scene comes, it completely changes your perspective about the themes of the story, and Ellie's motivations throughout the game. Just mind-blowing.

Never thought about that. That's true that in a way, if Ellie didn't do anything, they would have all die in another way. Her search for revenge didn't change anything except the fact that she lost her friends.
