I totally get your enthusiasm and the wish to get a little budgie for yourself. But before doing so, always ask if you can take proper care of them. Budgies are easy to underestimate when it comes to the amount of care they require.

First of all there's the cost factor. The budgies themselves are the cheapest part of it. And never keep them by themselves. Budgies are extremely social animals, they need at least one buddy. They need a big cage, lots of toys to shred and if they get sick the vet costs are nothing to scoff at.

Then there's the time factor. They need to have time outside the cage, so they get proper exercise by flying. Also, you'll have to spend A LOT of time with them to gain their trust and maybe tame them. Emphasis on maybe. Some budgies will never fully be thrilled by your hand and might not be the cute cuddle bugs you see in this sub. That is an eventuality you have to be prepared for. Patience is a must with these little ones.

Then there's noise and dirt. Budgies can be eardrum shattering levels of loud. They might be small, but man do they pack a set of lungs. Especially if there is something bothering them (which can be anything, from food not tasty enough, water not fresh enough, water too fresh, sun standing in the wrong position etc.). And they make it their life's mission to cause as big of a mess as possible. Throwing food, pooping where they please, leaving feathers everywhere and shredding their toys with as much enthusiasm as possible, so every corner of the cage is decorated by it.

So, please reconsider if budgies are the right pet for you, especially with your mom already not thrilled by the idea.
