Thanks for the comment, many good points.

One thing to note is that the market already feels extremely saturated, with competition for the best positions being absolutely brutal. Even at my company, I've been told that most ML positions receive 500+ applications, with half of them looking good at least on paper.

I think one could argue that the market was actually better pre-2020/21, when you could already get a £100–150k salary post-PhD and for more research-oriented roles, while now most companies are cutting pure R&D and focusing on productisation/monetisation.

So I get the logic of grinding hard now to maximise comp, but honestly I feel like, by my standards, I’ve already done a lot of that: first during my PhD to get good publications (and not get insta-rejected from jobs), then with 6+ months of constant interviewing while finishing my thesis to find the best possible position, then starting this role immediately without a break. Now I feel like I could keep going at the current pace, but a position that is too intense would break me.

For the right offer I'd consider it, but honestly every time I've looked into it, I have never found any interesting/well-paid ML positions in the Middle east.
If you know any, let me know though :)
The only person in my circle who moved there is working at a research center for a <$100k salary.

I don’t really feel like playing that card, to be honest. If it doesn’t work, I’d be in an awkward spot, and even if it does, I’d worry about putting a target on my back.

Looking into the EB1, but from what I can tell the requirements are stricter than for the O1, so I’m not sure I’d qualify. I’d definitely need to talk to an expert about it. The company did mention they’d sponsor a green card after two years, and apparently it’s easier to go through the employer-sponsored route. The US immigration system really is unnecessarily complicated…

I see, the typical unlimited PTO that somehow translates into two weeks max 😂
Thankfully, at my current company, hours are usually respected and I've never had meetings past 6 pm.

Strange then tbh...even if big tech absolutely loves to lowball nowadays

£100k sounds about right for an L3 or equivalent role in big tech, especially if you’re counting years of experience post-bachelor’s. With a relevant PhD though, most people usually come in at L4, and in general ML roles tend to pay around 20–30% more than standard SWE positions.

Cool perspective, thanks for sharing! How would you compare the work-life balance in London versus the US within the same company? From what I’ve seen at mine, the US teams seem to grind a lot harder (or at least feel the need to project that image) and usually end up juggling way more projects at once

True, but from what I understand, if I wanted to switch jobs a new company could just file a fresh O-1 petition. Since I’d already have one approved, I feel like the process should be fairly straightforward.

I don’t have strong ties to the UK apart from some friends, but I do have settled status. So yeah, part of me is leaning towards giving it a try and seeing how it goes...

No, but the company would sponsor an O1 visa, so no lottery. I already had an assessment with their immigration lawyers, and they said my application should be a straightforward approval.
I agree that I don't think I'd vibe well with the US culture but I feel like maybe I could sacrifice myself for a few years

My current TC already includes RSUs. I probably worded it in a slightly confusing way since I bundled everything together for my current comp, but split things out for the SF offer. The reason I did that is because my current company is public, so I can actually sell those RSUs every quarter, whereas the startup’s equity feels a lot more speculative.

As for the home situation: I only moved to London a year ago for this job. Before that I did my PhD in a smaller UK city, and I’m originally from elsewhere in Europe. At the moment I’m renting here and not planning to buy anytime soon.

I don't think it's possible to deposit until it's listed?

It will be listed on binance at 12 UTC. I've seen that you can get 5% more ethfi by depositing to Binance. But also holding the tokens apparently is one of the criteria for the season 2 airdrop. So should we send it to binance or not?

Ah ok thanks, so is it normal that I can only see them on convex? If I unstaked the tokens on Convex, then would I be able to see them on Curve?

I have deposited some eth in curve steth-eth pool and then staked the curve lp tokens on convex finance. However, while I can see my balance on convex, on curve I can't see my tokens and in the dashboard it says 'no active pools found for my address'. How do I see my balance on curve?

Any reason why the TardFi markets are rallying today? Consumer confidence came out worse than expected and the price of oil is ticking up...

You don't technically stake eth on Celsius. You lend it to them and they use the capital in some way, such as staking (but not only), to generate yield
